Orioles call up Hoes and Chavez; DFA Gregg and Adams

The Orioles have made two roster moves today, selecting the contracts of
outfielders Endy Chavez and L.J. Hoes  from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room on
the 40-man roster, they have designated right-hander Kevin Gregg and
infielder Ryan Adams for assignment.

Gregg's departure came as a shock to the other pitchers on the staff, and the
reliever said he was "really disappointed" to be leaving the O's in the
middle of a playoff push.

Gregg went 3-2 with a 4.74 ERA in 40 appearances for the Orioles this season.

Hoes will be making his major league debut when he first plays. He batted
.300 with three home runs, 38 RBI and 54 runs scored in 82 games with Norfolk
after beginning the season with Double-A Bowie, where he batted .265 in 51
games.  Hoes was the Orioles' third round pick in the 2008 draft out of St.
John’s High School in Washington, D.C.

Chavez batted .190 with two home runs and eight RBI in 47 games with the
Orioles earlier this season. He was designated for assignment on Aug. 4 and
played 15 games for the Tides after being outrighted.

Adams batted .224 with four home runs and 20 RBI in 65 games with the Tides
this season.
