Some of my classmates and I were asked some "interesting" questions during interviews with Shell (they are known for giving all kinds of weird interview questions). 1. What do you think about tourism? (By the way, they are recruiting new Chemical Engineers.) 2. What do you think about Spacetravelling? What are the benefits and drawbacks of Spacetravelling? 3. What are some similarities between Michael Jorden and Cinderella? 4. What do you think about National Parks? What are the benefits and drawbacks of having National Parks? I understand that the company needs to test the candidates' way of thinking, and I understand that sometimes the HR people would give "behavioral" type of interviews, which consist of questions that are not related to the objective professional field in any way. But these questions? The only intention of them that I can see is only to throw the candidates off. Yes, it probably shows that the person can think faster than others and maybe possess some kind of creativity or senses of imagination, but what about his/her professional knowledge and technical skills? It seems to me like they don't even care about those at all. The fact is, at the time when they came to our campus to recruit, they were not even actually hiring. It was just their usualy routine, which they do once every year, and I was just another resume in their database. I am not saying that Shell is a bad company. It obvisouly is very successful in its business. But the kind of company that I expect to work for would be one with more sincerity and enthusiasm. Don't they know that while they are screen- ing for the best qualified candidates, the top ones are picking the best company to provide the most decent work environment as well? All I can see from the attitide of the interviewers and HR dept. are arrogance and indifference toward their prospective employees. Or is it like everyone just wants to get in the most money-making company no matter what? ※ 引述《Ptt (杜奕瑾)》之銘言: : These are soft skill's questions I met while I was interviewed by MS. : I think it is a good test for a tech lead's positions. : 1. The philosophy is simple, Bill Gates said if you are smart enough, he can teach you anything. So he puts all emphasis on "IQ" or "brain teaser" in front of any professional skills. This is obviously true: if you are smart enough, you can major any subject in college without any problem. A person which can only learn a particular thing or make one thing work is not smart and talented. More important, high-tech is changing very fast, especially in software industry. All computer skills we learned from college won't last for 10 years. So the philosophy is they want to hire people who can do things, not what they have done. ※ 引述《Amily (你還是一個人嗎)》之銘言: : Some of my classmates and I were asked some "interesting" questions during : interviews with Shell (they are known for giving all kinds of weird interview : questions). : 1.
