標題Re: [情報] Rose 又要被賣?@_@
時間Mon Nov 24 08:19:05 2003

Trade wait: Rose is frustrated
November 23, 2003
BY ROMAN MODROWSKI Staff Reporter Advertisement
SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- The Bulls and Toronto Raptors continued trade
talks Saturday night, but a deal is not expected to be completed today,
according to league sources.
The teams discussed sending Jalen Rose and Donyell Marshall to the
Raptors for Antonio Davis, Morris Peterson and a throw-in player to
match salaries, a source said.
''Several names are being tossed around,'' a source said.
Toronto's Alvin Williams originally was part of the deal, but his
health problems were an obstacle.
It's possible the deal could happen Monday, when both teams are off,
giving the players enough time to join their new teams before their
next games. The Bulls, who face the Kings in Sacramento tonight, play
Tuesday in Dallas, and the Raptors play in Atlanta on Wednesday.
It's also possible the discussed deal will fizzle.
''We were talking, as I do with many teams,'' Bulls operations chief
John Paxson said Saturday. ''Names and salaries matching up came out.
''But in this case, it had not even gotten to the point where I would
consider going to my staff. It had gone to Jerry [Reinsdorf] briefly.''
Paxson isn't happy word leaked because he didn't want his players put
in awkward positions. That's why he phoned Rose on Friday in Los Angeles
to warn him of the situation.
Paxson wouldn't comment on trade specifics, but he wanted to clarify
something that appears to have been misinterpreted. Rose said Friday he
was assured by Paxson that he wouldn't be traded to Toronto, but Paxson
said what he tried to convey was nothing was imminent at that time.
''The only thing I want to make clear is that I would never guarantee
that to a player,'' Paxson said. ''What I said to Jalen is that his name
obviously came up. I didn't talk to Jalen directly. He didn't answer his
cell.
''The names of good players come up. I left Jalen a message saying,
'Did your name come up? Yes. Is it imminent? No.' But I have never said,
and I never will say, I'm not trading a player because there is always
that chance.''
Rose was asked what he remembered as the gist of Paxson's message.
''I told you what he said,'' Rose replied.
Rose clearly is frustrated with his role on the Bulls.
''I think my situation was changed before the season even started,'' he
said. ''They talked about a reduction in my role ... for the betterment
of the team.
''To go from a guy who played the second-most minutes in franchise history
to a guy who's playing 32 or 33 minutes, that shows me my opportunity is
different. So while I'm here, I'll make the most of the opportunity I'm
given. But we're obviously not winning.''
Marshall is less concerned about the possibility of being dealt.
''I called my family, and they're preparing themselves for it,'' Marshall
said. ''They know how it goes as well. They've been through it before, too.
''It's a business. It's not personal. And Pax has been straightforward.''
Rose seemed distracted by the situation Friday as he shot only 2-for-11
with three turnovers in a 101-94 loss to the Lakers. Rose played only 22
minutes, which he interpreted as the Bulls protecting his health because
he's about to be traded.
''That's probably the fewest minutes I played in years,'' Rose said. ''So
that obviously aids the speculation for the rest of the world, and for me,
too.
''So I just have to be a pro about it and see what happens.''
Coach Bill Cartwright said Rose's theory about playing time is incorrect.
''That's a stupid statement,'' Cartwright said. ''He wasn't playing well
-- period.
''We have to win some games. We're going with the guys who are playing the
best basketball, and yesterday it wasn't him.''
Paxson will not trade a player just because he's unhappy, but as a former
player, Paxson knows how trade talks can be a distraction.
''This is the problem with this mess and somebody leaking information
from one side,'' Paxson said. ''This is my biggest concern: It puts our
players in a real uncomfortable position in that they have to answer
questions that they shouldn't have to answer.
''My job is to make us better. Their job is to play. I don't expect them
to answer these types of questions. I feel bad that our players were put
in a very uncomfortable position.''
And Paxson said if a trade is made, the players will not find out from
the media.
''I've told [Rose's agent, Arn Tellem] and every agent that if something
is going to happen, I'm going to call the agent and the player first,''
Paxson said. ''That's just the way I operate.''
