Jasikevicius, a 6-foot-4 point guard from Lithuania, agreed to a three-year deal with the Pacers in July but couldn't sign the contract until the new six-year NBA collective bargaining agreement was finalized last week. His agent, Doug Neustadt, said Wednesday that Jasikevicius planned to be in Indianapolis on Thursday to sign the contract and to attend a news conference at Conseco Fieldhouse. He earlier said the 29-year-old Jasikevicius, who helped Maccabi Tel Aviv win its second straight Euroleague title last season, turned down offers from Cleveland, Utah, Seattle and Portland. Pacers spokesman Jeff McCoy wouldn't comment on the signing but confirmed there was a news conference scheduled for Thursday about a free agent. In Cleveland, Jasikevicius could have joined fellow Lithuanian Zydrunas Ilgauskas a year after he was the best man at Ilgauskas' wedding. Instead, he picked the team with a better chance for a championship, Neustadt said. "It was a huge factor," Neustadt said. "He was really looking for a chance to compete in the playoffs, and he sees Indiana as that team." Jasikevicius, who averaged 15.7 points and 5.3 assists a game in the Euroleague last season, likely will compete with Jamaal Tinsley and Stephen Jackson for playing time at guard. The Pacers will be looking for additional scoring to ease the departure of the retired Reggie Miller. Jasikevicius played college basketball at Maryland. He had not received significant NBA offers since then, but drew new interest after he scored 28 points in Lithuania's upset win over the United States in the Olympics last year. The signing of Jasikevicius, however, could hamper Indiana's efforts to sign veteran Dale Davis, who is a free agent. Davis started 25 games and averaged 6.9 points and 8.9 rebounds after he was waived by New Orleans and rejoined the Pacers last season. "I don't think we're close. It's going to be determined if they can do something to create more revenue," Davis' agent, Chubby Wells, said. Reply With Quote -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 220.142.44.53
