-____- -- http://www.indystar.com/print/articles/5/066384-1625-116.html New deal for Miller nearly done Pacers CEO expects contract to be finalized in the next couple of days. By Sekou Smith sekou.smith@indystar.com August 18, 2003 Reggie Miller's status as an NBA free agent should end before he elebrates his 38th birthday Sunday. Indiana Pacers CEO Donnie Walsh said Monday that he expects to "get something done in the next couple of days" regarding the NBA's career leader in 3-pointers. Walsh has worked the past three weeks trying to finalize a contract for Miller, a 16-year veteran who has spent his entire career with the Pacers. Neither Miller nor his agent, Arn Tellem, could be reached for comment. Miller is expected to accept a cut from the $12 million salary he received each of the past two seasons. With 12 players already under contract at about $51.5 million, the Pacers have about $6 million to work with under the projected luxury tax threshold. That's the main reason veteran shooting guard Jon Barry won't be joining the Pacers. He is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Nuggets for between $2 million to $3 million, according to the Denver Post. Barry, 34, who met with Pacers officials in July, said any chance of him joining the team vanished in the past month. "It's not going to happen," said Barry, who spent the past two seasons as a reserve guard for the Detroit Pistons. "A bunch of things happened, but I don't know that I'm at liberty to say." Walsh said he wanted to sign Barry, but couldn't make it happen financially. "I really like him a lot and I really wanted to get him here," Walsh said. "But I just couldn't get it done." Barry was seen as a potential backup for Miller. Barry averaged 6.9 points for the Pistons last season and was 11th in the NBA in 3-point percentage (.407). Barry's father, Hall of Famer Rick Barry, told the Rocky Mountain News that his son was simply tired of waiting for an offer he liked. "There were some opportunities for longer term deals, but they fell through," said Barry. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.csie.ntu.edu.tw) ◆ From: 61.223.128.147
