Foster, Jones Hurting, but Plan to Play Game 3
By John Clayton
Indianapolis, May 8, 2004
Given the physicality of the Pacers' second-round series against Miami, it's no
surprise that a couple of Pacers' players suffered injuries in their 91-80 Gam
e 2 victory over the Heat. The surprise is that injuries to Jeff Foster and Fre
d Jones hardly involved the Heat at all.
Foster suffered a bruised right hip after a collision with teammate Jermaine O'
Neal in the first quarter. Foster continued to play through the injury for stre
tches in the first half, but was in obvious discomfort as he tried to keep pace
with Lamar Odom. He returned to start the third quarter, but was quickly lifte
d in favor of Al Harrington in the opening minutes of the second half. Fred Jon
es injured his left shoulder when he tried to brace himself as he fell awkwardl
y to the floor while defending Heat guard Dwyane Wade with 5:19 remaining in th
e game. Jones came to the bench and had his shoulder iced. He said he was going
to have it examined by doctors Saturday night
Both Foster and Jones said they expect to be in the lineup for Game 3 at Miami
Monday night.
"I'll get it checked out. It's playoff time. I've got to fight through that," s
aid Jones. "I'm not worried about a problem. I've got to play. I'm not worried
about anything else, I've got to play. I'll get treatment. I've got a day off.
I'll be fine."
Foster had roughly the same attitude and said he could have returned in the sec
ond half had the Heat mounted a comeback.
"J.O. hit me and a spasm ran down my leg and I couldn't run real well," said Fo
ster. "But I'll be ready to come back and have a good game on Monday. It was a
real weird thing . . . and it caused an interesting spasm down my leg."
Known as one of the tougher players on the Pacers' roster, Foster's absence due
to injury was unusual, to say the least.
"For Jeff to sit out, that says that he's really hurting," said Anthony Johnson
.
Like Foster, Jones is counted on for his defensive presence, particularly in th
is series against Wade, an offensive threat who has struggled with turnover pro
blems during the Heat's playoff run with 39 over its last nine games.
But even without Foster for nearly the entire second half and without Jones dow
n the stretch, the Pacers were able to take a 2-0 series lead -- and that was n
o surprise to Foster.
"We just have so many pieces, you just plug someone else in if someone goes dow
n," said Foster. "And we continue to prosper and win games."
Foster 的受傷還真是莫名奇妙呀...= =" Jermaine 打球專心一點拉~><"
希望他們兩個都沒事囉:)
