Marion cuts down on 3-pointers

SACRAMENTO - During his worst shooting season, Shawn Marion has been
a top contributor with his defense and rebounding.

  To help even more, Marion has turned more selective in his shooting.
His 30 percent accuracy from three-point range was dragging down his
shooting. He still is not hitting threes but has made an effort to take
fewer of them.

  Marion has hit 34 of 58 shots, including only six three-point tries,
in the past four games. He has not made a three-pointer in the past
six games (11 tries).

  "He's such a good kid that he'll do whatever to improve himself,"
Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. "I think he felt he wasn't shooting well
from outside and he started slashing and he's been great."

  Since Amare Stoudemire came back to the starting lineup Feb. 6,
Joe Johnson has not approached his previous red-hot pace.

  Johnson is hitting 41 percent of his shots in the past 10 games.
He is 10 for 39 on three-pointers in that stretch.

  "I think he's just had some slow starts, but he's always picked it up,"
D'Antoni said.

  Someday, you could see more of a Suns lineup of players 6 feet 7 and
taller, such as the one they used late in the game Sunday with Johnson
at point guard.

  That would mean Zarko Cabarkapa returning to his pre-injury level of
play he showed in November.

  "He's lost his confidence," D'Antoni said before the game. "He needs
some good things to happen. The guy is arguably one of our best offensive
players, but he just hasn't been able to show it."

  D'Antoni said Cabarkapa showed "signs of life" Sunday.
