Although Colangelo said he would like to stay on board
a few more years, he understands that a potential buyer
may not want to wait to take over. There are no firm
offers on the table, and Colangelo said he has not spoken
with former NBA stars Michael Jordan or Magic Johnson,
who have tried to buy a team.
A sale would produce huge profits for all investors, who
bought the Suns in 1987 for $44.5 million.
Colangelo, the team's first general manager in 1968,
declined to put a price tag on the Suns, but he said the
team is worth more than the New Jersey Nets, which recently
sold for $300 million.
Yet for the past few months, he continually denied the Suns
were on the market, saying only that he was looking for an
"equity partner."
"I will always have some association with this franchise
no matter what."
