SAN DIEGO (TICKER) —The San Diego Padres added a veteran presence to their infield on Thursday, agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with veteran David Eckstein. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Eckstein, who will turn 34 on January 20, hit .265 with two home runs and 27 RBI in 94 games with the Toronto Blue Jays and Arizona Diamondbacks last season. The 2006 World Series MVP with the St. Louis Cardinals and a member of the 2002 champion Anaheim Angels, Eckstein has a career .351 on-base percentage. He will be reunited with Padres manager Bud Black, who was the pitching coach for the Angels during Eckstein's four-year stint in Anaheim. “David has been a part of two World Series Championship teams and knows what it takes to win,”San Diego general manager Kevin Towers said.“He will bring an incredible work ethic to the playing field and should establish himself as a leader in the clubhouse.” The Padres also claimed righthander Jae Kuk Ryu off waivers from the Tampa Bay Rays. -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 218.171.145.250
