Good Grief! It's The End, Charlie Brown!
For almost 50 years, cartoonist Charles Schultz brought us the
"Peanuts" comic strip. His characters - including Charlie Brown,
Lucy, Linus and Snoopy - are famous around the world. They have
appeared daily in more than 2,600 newspapers. More than 350
million readers in 75 countrieshave enjoyed scenes shch as Linus
with his security blanket and Snoopy sitting on the top of his dog
house. Expressions like "Good grief!" and "You blockhead!" have
become part of the English language.
But the demands of creating his daily stirp took their toll on the
77-year-old Schulz. His health worsened, and last February he died of
colon cancer.
Before He died, Schulz said he drew cartoons for the same reason
musicians write music and poets write poems: to give meaning to their
lives. "That's why I drew cartoons," he said. "It's my life."
Charles Schulz died the same day his last comic strip was published.
