Darrell Walker hired as Hornets' assistant
Associated Press
NEW ORLEANS -- Former NBA player and coach Darrell Walker
was hired Wednesday as an assistant to New Orleans Hornets
coach Byron Scott.
Walker played 10 years in the NBA and had short stints as
head coach of the Toronto Raptors and Washington Wizards.
He has been in the Wizards' front office as player personnel
director or scout the past four years.
"He was known for unselfish team play and stellar defense
during his playing days and he has been able to transfer
those attributes to his teams as a coach," said Scott, who
was hired in May as the Hornets' coach.
Walker led the Raptors to a 30-52 record in 1996-97. He
resigned Feb. 13, 1998, with an overall record of 41-90.
Early in 2000 he became Washington's interim coach and went
15-23. Walker also coached in the CBA and WNBA.
Walker was drafted 12th overall in 1983 by the New York Knicks.
He averaged 8.9 points and 4.6 assists during a playing career
that included tours with Denver, Washington, Detroit and Chicago
as part of the Bulls' 1993 championship team.
