New Orleans, LA (Sports Network) - Rookie J.R. Smith scored 19
points in his NBA debut to lead New Orleans to a 94-87 win
over Dallas in preseason action.
Smith, who was drafted with the 18th overall pick out of
St. Benedict's Prep High School, was 6-of-9 from the field.
Baron Davis chipped in 14 points and Lee Nailon added 13 for
the Hornets, who connected on 8-of-20 three-point tries.
Jerry Stackhouse had a game-high 20 points for the Mavericks,
who hit on just 36 percent from the field (26-of-72). Michael
Finely and Dirk Nowitzki both netted 17 points in the loss.
Stackhouse was acquired in the offseason in a deal that saw
Antawn Jamison head to the Washington Wizards.
