Hello, to whom it may concern:
This is Anthony. Let me do a brief introduction on myself.
My major is nuclear engineering.
I am a person of enthusiasm, passion and energy, which seems to be a perfect
match for my major, isn't it?
It is my interest to play basketball, do some training in
strength and conditioning centers, read books, watch movies,
take a look at someone's blog, go traveling, share interesting things with
friends, challenge myself to achieve something big...and so on.
Studying abroad to pursue a ph.D degree has always been my dream when I
was an undergraduate. I am a graduate and now I am trying to get final approval
from my boss on the issue of my graduation. As for my preparation on
Studying abroad, I tried GRE once last year and just got an average score,
which is not competitive, in my opinion, to get scholarship or tuition waiver.
I will try my best to get good grades this october.
I am here to make friends or penpals to improve my english. We can share
our common experience of being a graduate. Topics like the personality of
boss, a quick look on daily routine, regulations on laboratory, something
interesting during meeting or conference would be fun. Also, we can try our
best to explain to each other what our research is mainly focused on,
what the whole structure or background of our majors is, and even what
the meaning of some keywords in the fields is. I believe it would be a good
help when we have interviews or write our SOPs in a forseeable future. Another
benefit of this kind communication is the broadening of our views. As for me,
it would be challenging and exciting to make contact of someone whose major
is literature, history, philosophy or artistics. However, it would also be
interesting and fun to communicate with guys major in math, physics, biology or
something like that.
Of course we cannot just talk about our research field or majors.
Life is good and more than academic research, right? as for sports,
I am a big fan of Denver Nuggets. Indeed, guys in Nuggets look like thugs,
especially J.R. Smith, Chris Andersen and Kenyon Martin. I like the way they
play basketball, maybe we can talk about that in details later. As for
traveling, I've been to China, USA, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia and of course
Taiwan. I believe we can talk lots on it. Dreams? whoever wants to study abroad
as I do, partners of dream-seekers or ETS Challengers, please keep me informed.
We can also share our childhood dreams just like "the last lecture" does. Free
talks on childhood dreams such as being a doctor, scientist or CEO and ways to
accomplish those dreams or what make those dreams possible or impossible would
be fun. Romance? it is also a good topic to continue on. Boys or girls all
have beautiful love stories in their memories, either imaginary or real, they
are wonderful. Trust me, the stories of drawing tears with love or hate are
always good ones. The philosophy of life is also the topic we can work on.
I am a buddhist and very interested in the issue of getting eternal happiness
and staying far away from fear and depression. If your religious beliefs is not
the same as me, don't worry about that because we can try to find something
in common in two religious belives.
For English lovers, ETS fighters, or I-don't-know-what-to-write friends, we can
do some writing practices together. For instance, recently I did some homework
on ST-English board and we can correct each other's essay, do some
brainstorming on the issues, and give out our comments on each other's essay.
GRE issues and arguments are troublesome and we can conquer it by team work.
We can exchange our experiences on how we improve our english or which websites
are helpful. TOEFL speaking/writing topics are good starting points for us to
continue on our communication. Grammatical errors and bad word choices are
inevitable, but it is those practices make the difference. Well goes the
saying, "Practice makes perfect" isn't it?
All in all, it's a long article and thanks for your patience to read it
through. I expect your mails and please feel free to give it a try.
Also, after communicating with mails we can try to challenge our immediate
response in English via chatting on msn if oppotunity offers.
Anthony
