     strong anti-mechanistic tendencies. He was suspicious of anything

     A close association with Bruno Walter was necessarily a rich one.
     Defined by music, it was also constructed with kindness, humor,
     and morality in its profoundest sense all measured in the different life
     pulse of a now vanished world, a world of savored time where a Bruckner
     symphony was a pleasure too quickly spent [...]
