        Classy Happ not happy to be leaving Phillies

The left-hander was emotional after hearing the news that he'd been sent
to the Astros in the Roy Oswalt deal.
PHILADELPHIA - J.A. Happ braced for life-altering news driving Thursday
afternoon to Citizens Bank Park, then did his best to go through his
normal day-before-start routine.

Trying not to think about what he'd heard in the morning on television,
27-year-old left-hander threw on a pair of blue shorts with a Phillies
logo, a T-shirt and headed from the clubhouse to the ballpark concourse
to get in an afternoon jog.

"Rumors are rumors until you get called in," Happ said, referring to a
blockbuster trade that had been widely reported as done.
Before finishing his run, Happ was summoned to the manager's office by
pitching coach Rich Dubee.
Knowing what was coming, Happ wanted to cry.

After getting there, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. and manager Charlie
Manuel made it official by revealing he'd been dealt to Houston with two
Phillies minor-leaguers for Astros ace Roy Oswalt.

From there, Happ headed back to the clubhouse to say his goodbyes. That
was the toughest part, because many of his teammates genuinely were just
as sad.

"I talked to a lot of guys in there and it is very emotional to even
try to look them in the eye and know that they've been my teammates,"
said Happ, who was on the disabled list most of this year after a stand-
out 2009 season that included a 12-4 record, 2.93 ERA and second-place
finish in the NL Rookie of the Year voting. "I've been blessed to be able
to play with these guys. It's such a great group. I know I've fed off them.
Maybe at times, they've fed off me."

And now he's no longer a Phillie. This morning, he'll fly to Houston,
and tonight he'll make his Astros debut against Milwaukee.

"I'm pretty young in my major-league career, and to go to two World Series
and win one, that's a great time to be part of the (Phillies) organization,"
Happ said. "That's why I like it here so much. But another team is giving me
a great chance, and I'm going to go down there and try and do what I do."
