bottom of the first, two outs, Ken Griffey Jr. steps up to the plate. "They
announce his name, the crowd goes wild, and I'm like, 'Ohhhhhkay ...," recalls
Cole Hamels, sitting in the dugout one day later. He shakes his head and laughs,
"Now, here we go. I used to have that video game, RBI Baseball. Then when I got
a Nintendo 64 I got Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball. I was him all the time in the
game. So there he is standing at the plate, and it's a little weird, yeah;
suddenly it feels like a video game. I take a deep breath and forget about the
crowd, forget about who's at the plate, block all that out and get to work.
Because if you don't do that, you're toast."

15th of his major league career -- is a sick 82 mph changeup that flutters over
the heart of the plate. Frozen, Junior can only stare at it. Hamels strikes out
seven Reds hitters in five innings (no decision), five on the killer changeup
that the San Diego native, when he was 15, decided he had to master after
watching Trevor Hoffman dominate hitters as the Padres reached the World Series
in 1998.
