Being honored a moment of 'great pride' for former catcher

PHILADELPHIA -- Former Phillies catcher Darren Daulton became the 32nd player
to be officially enshrined on Philadelphia's Wall of Fame on Friday, kicking
off the club's Alumni Weekend at Citizens Bank Park.

Daulton returned to Philadelphia during Spring Training this year as a regular studio analyst for Comcast Sportsnet and he co-hosts a daily
radio show on 97.5 The Fanatic. But he admitted that public speaking makes
him nervous.

"I'm still afraid of cameras," Daulton said. "The radio is pretty comfortable

Best known as the cornerstone of 1993 club that won the National League
pennant, Daulton was a three-time All-Star who holds five team records.
He spent 14 seasons in Philadelphia before being traded to the Marlins
in 1997.

On a makeshift stage in front of the pitcher's mound, Daulton addressed
a sold-out crowd before Friday's game and will receive a 14-by-20-inch
bronze plaque on the Wall of Fame in Memory Lane behind center field at
Citizens Bank Park. Among those who returned to honor Daulton were Hall
of Famers Jim Bunning, Steve Carlton and Mike Schmidt, along with Phillies
greats Dick Allen, Greg Luzinski, Garry Maddox, Tony Taylor and Bob Boone.

將可以看到Daulton的銅牌雕像 與其他巨星並列在那兒
Carlton made the official introduction for Daulton and presented him with
a Wall of Fame No. 10 jersey.
"On the field, we shared the same desire to win," Carlton said.
Former teammates Tommy Green, Kevin Stocker, Ricky Jordan, Jim Eisenreich
and John Kruk then presented Daulton with a miniature plaque on the stage.

"I take great pride in this organization and the city of Philadelphia,"
Daulton told the crowd. "I can no longer call you fans. We've been through
too much together. I have to start calling you family."
道爾吞面對滿場曾經被J-Ro指責為front-runner的費迷 溫情的說
我沒辦法再稱呼你們為球迷 因為我們實際上早已經是一家人
The fans gave Daulton a warm ovation, and the former catcher said he's
always amazed how many people remember him so fondly from his years here
as a player.

"It's remarkable whenever I come back how many fans are still connected
with the '93 club," Daulton said. "A lot of them are older than I am,
but it's kind of neat. I've been doing some traveling up here, and in
some of the towns I go to, kids that were 7 or 8 years old back then are
25 or 26 now. They'll say, 'I don't want to make you feel old, but my
mother had a crush on you back in '93.' I say, 'Well, you made me feel
old, but that's really neat.'"
