Phillies acquire Ty Wigginton from Colorado / By Matt Gelb

Ruben Amaro Jr. has publicly maintained his faith in his two corner infielders,
Ryan Howard and Placido Polanco, staying healthy for much of the 2012 season.
But when a trade for an insurance policy such as Ty Wigginton presented itself,
the Phillies general manager acted.

"I don't think we had to [make the trade]," Amaro said. "But this was the
right fit for us."

The Phillies acquired Wigginton from the Colorado Rockies on Sunday night for
a player to be named later or cash. Wigginton, a 34-year-old utility bat, is
due to make $4 million in 2012 and has a $4 million team option for 2013 with
a $500,000 buyout.

The two teams will split the cost of Wigginton's 2012 salary, according to
the Denver Post. If the Phillies exercise his 2013 option, the teams would
exchange a player or cash. The Rockies, Amaro said, agreed on a predetermined
list of minor-leaguers from which to choose.

Wigginton, who has played six positions in his 10-year career, projects to
mostly being a corner infielder for the Phillies. He hit .245 with a .731 OPS
in 2011 and has slugged at least 15 home runs in five of his last six seasons.

At first base, Howard's return from Achilles surgery is unknown. Phillies can
now use a mix of Wigginton, John Mayberry and maybe Jim Thome to temporarily
fill that void. Polanco has missed 70 games in the last two seasons at third
base with a litany of injuries and Wigginton can help there, too.

"We've actually talked about Ty for years," Amaro said. "We've talked about
him as a third baseman in the past. We've talked about him as a utility guy
in the past. We had some discussions with the agents in the past. We just feel
like this gives us a different look on the bench and on our club. Who knows
how much he'll play, but at least he's a guy who can fill in for an extended
period of time.

Effectively, Wigginton allows the Phillies to carry another bat with power
potential on the bench and eliminates the need for two light-hitting utility
players in Wilson Valdez and Michael Martinez. Now, the Phillies will probably
keep only one of those two at the major-league level. Valdez is arbitration
eligible and Martinez can be sent to the minors.

Amaro said the acquisition of Wigginton does not preclude the Phillies from
signing another bat in addition to re-signing Jimmy Rollins, which remains the
top priority. The Phillies like Michael Cuddyer, but a baseball source said
they are turned off by his current asking price of three years.

Said Amaro: "We're still looking at our options."

Phillies continued to change the look of their bench by acquiring versatile
Ty Wigginton from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later or cash
on Sunday.

Wigginton, 34, bats right-handed and plays infield and outfield. He joins Jim
Thome as additions to the bench this off-season.

"I like three things about him," general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. "I like
his makeup. I like that he fits our club in that he can play first base and
third base. And I like that he gives us another guy with power off the bench.
We had been looking to add depth to our bench."

Wigginton is signed for 2012 at $4 million. Phillies are getting $2 million
in the deal. The two teams have six months to complete the deal with a player
to be named or cash.

The acquisition of Wigginton may be a signal that the Phillies do not believe
they will sign free-agent Michael Cuddyer, another versatile right-handed
hitter.It is believed that the Phils have an offer on the table to Cuddyer,
but it is probably short in dollars and years of what he is seeking at this
point of the off-season. Amaro made a point of saying that Wigginton's
acquisition "doesn't preclude us from doing any of our business." He added
that acquiring an outfield bat was still a possibility. If that’s going to
be Cuddyer, he will probably have to come at the Phillies’ price.

Having signed closer Jonathan Papelbon and bolstered their bench, the Phillies'
main remaining focus is on shortstop. They are in negotiations to bring back
their own free agent, Jimmy Rollins, and are talking with a number of other
candidates to fill the position.

Amaro said talks with Rollins were going "slow." He added that he does not
believe he will have the position filled by the winter meetings, which begin
Dec. 5 in Dallas.

"We're a ways away from doing anything with anybody at shortstop," Amaro said.
"We're having dialogue with Jimmy and several other possible fits."

Wigginton, 34, hit .242 with 15 homers and 47 RBIs in 130 games for Colorado
in 2011. He was just 20 for 123 (.163) with runners in scoring position. He
played first base, third base, left field and right field last season. He has
also played second base in his career.

That versatility is attractive to the Phils, who are looking for depth at
first base and third base. First baseman Ryan Howard will miss the start of
the season as he recovers from surgery on his Achilles tendon, and 3B Polanco
is recovering from groin surgery. The Phils believe Polanco could be more
productive if his playing time is monitored in 2012. Wigginton can play some
outfield, but Amaro said he was being viewed mostly as a corner infielder.

The Phillies tried to acquire Wigginton from Baltimore in 2010, but the cost
was too high. He hit .248 with 22 homers and 76 RBIs that season and made the
American League all-star team.

The Phillies acquired infielder/outfielder Ty Wigginton and cash from the
Colorado Rockies in exchange for a player to be named later or cash, General
Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.

我們從洛磯那邊換來Ty Wigginton 跟一些錢

誰要被送出去還不知道(可能是球員 可能是錢但是看對方有貼錢 可能是球員了 QQ)

Wigginton, 34, batted .242 with 15 home runs and 47 RBI in 130 games for
Colorado last season.  Defensively he appeared at four different positions
for the Rockies including 68 games at third base, 36 at first base, 21 in
left field and six in right field.

數據巴拉巴拉

簡單來講我們需要1B(受傷中)2B(藏傷中)3B(鳥蛋中)LF(新陳代謝中)的替補

而Wigginton都會守 耶 而且他不只是工具人 還是個輸出相當不賴的工具人

近幾年的平均 SLG.400 OPS.700 OBP.300上下

到時候上面幾個都歸位後 代打(或DH)左手有金湯米 右手有他 調度整個好調整很多

也說不定LF或3B就被他給篡位了 XD

總之 追不到卡帶兒是有點可惜 不過Ty Wigginton也很棒

我是覺得制服組這決定在今年的FA中是個nice pick up

He could do pretty well in CBP.
