Ibanez signed to play left field

The whispers began three or four years ago about the Phillies wanting a
divorce.
三四年前 費城就想過要和啪波兒拆夥了
不過一直沒成定局 反倒是阿布走先!
Pat Burrell, once their golden boy, put up pretty good power numbers year
after year, yet never did meet expectations. Although averaging 28 homers
and 92 RBIs in his nine seasons, the first overall pick of the 1998 draft
never made an All-Star team, which seemed unfathomable when he signed his
6-year, $50 million contract after the 2002
campaign.
長久以來 被視為費城人超級金童的啪波兒
雖然數字一點都不難看 但從未真正成為人們預期的超級巨砲!
Besides that, prolonged slumps seemed to surface every summer, Burrell never
covered much ground in left field and Phillies management didn't like a lot
of what it heard about his off-the-field behavior.

After a strong desire from Burrell for an opportunity to return was met with
silence, the Phillies found a new left fielder by coming to terms with free
agent Raul Ibanez, who has been a quiet star for the Seattle Mariners.

Ibanez agreed on a three-year deal worth a reported $30 million that will be
announced after a passed physical.
聽說最新的數字是3150萬美元 其中包含了簽約金
要等體檢通過 球團才會召開記者會...
"I don't know if it's a done deal, but Ibanez will have no trouble fitting
in," Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said. "He's a really good hitter who
plays hard."

When new general manager Ruben Amaro Jr.'s first big roster addition becomes
official, the Phillies will have a replacement for Burrell that, on paper,
appears to be an upgrade even though Ibanez will turn 37 next June.
雖然"一把就把敵人捏死"即將37歲
但這對費城人的左外野 終歸還是算"升級"!
"This is a great signing for the Phillies,"said an American League executive
who has seen a lot of Ibanez over the years. "The Phillies are getting a
first-class person and a real good ballplayer who treats his body like a
temple. He's really a conditioning nut. If a guy is going to be productive
into his late 30s, it will be this guy."

The executive also predicted the Phillies eventually would re-sign FA pitcher
Jamie Moyer because "there is no market elsewhere."
這個美聯的決策者表示 費城終究還是會把磨牙給簽下來
因為"有行無市"!
Ibanez is one of five outfielders with 20 homers and 100 RBIs in each of the
last three seasons, along with Bobby Abreu, Carlos Beltran, Carlos Lee and
Magglio Ordonez. He was the best player on a 101-loss Mariners team in 2008,
hitting .293 with 23 homers and 110 RBIs while starting all 162 games, 153 in
left field and nine at designated hitter.
Ibanez was a hot commodity this offseason with the Los Angeles Angels also in
pursuit and other teams such as the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets and Atlanta
Braves interested.
Defensively, Ibanez figures to be a slight upgrade from Burrell.
"Is he great out there?" Manuel said.
"I wouldn't say that. But he's adequate."
One thing that may be worrisome for the Phillies is an Ibanez-for-Burrell
tradeoff gives them another left-handed bat. The meat of their order already
had two lefty swingers in Chase Utley and Ryan Howard, but Ibanez did hit for
a higher average against southpaws in 2008 (.305 to .288). For his career,
he'sa .293 hitter versus righties, .268 against lefties.
"We're probably going to see a lot of left-handed relievers and our guys are
going to have to hit them," Manuel said.

Burrell, 32, hasn't had much luck finding a new home.
"I really haven't heard Burrell's name mentioned at all," the AL executive
said.
上面那位來自美聯的 說市場上幾乎沒聽到過波兒的傳聞
波兒得擔心了!
