Joe Dumars has salary cap space he wanted

Auburn Hills -- The exact amount the Pistons will be able to spend on free
agents this summer hasn't been determined just yet. The league will announce
the adjusted salary cap and luxury tax threshold sometime in early July.
大家普遍預期聯盟未來在七月初將會調整豪華稅門檻
而活塞今夏的銀彈可以多到什麼地步，至今仍沒有確切的數字
"That was always the plan for this summer," Dumars said. "We hope to get at
least two players out of free agency, plus add another player with our draft
pick (No. 15 overall). We went into the summer saying we had to add three new
guys to our mix."
Joe：「這都是為了這個暑假而做的規劃，我們希望至少從FA簽下兩個球員，及15th選秀
也就是說我們的目標是在這個暑假在陣容中加入三個新面孔。」
The Pistons could gain an additional $4 million of spending money if center
Kwame Brown decides to opt out of the final year of his contract.
如果 Kwame 決定執行option跳脫，活塞還可以得到額外的4M薪資空間。
"I have talked to Kwame and his agent and they both know we would love to
have him back next year," Dumars said. "But it's real simple. If he doesn't
opt out, then we would love to have his big body back here next year. If he
does opt out, then from a cap-space perspective, you are in a position to do
everything you need to do without having to squeeze. We would be fine either
way."

Brown, who has been working out at the Pistons practice facility, is expected
to exercise his option and return. He has until Monday to decide.

When asked if he had a short list of target free agents, Dumars joked, "I
think the (free agent) list itself is short."

He's right. This isn't a banner year for free agents. Some of the top names
like Kobe Bryant, Trevor Ariza, Lamar Odom and even Hedo Turkoglu are
expected to return to their current teams.

目前放眼望去，一些大咖像是 Kobe 、 Ariza 、 Odom 、 Hedo 目前都傾向留在原球隊。
has long been linked, along with Chicago's Ben Gordon, as the Pistons'
primary targets. While Gordon still appears to be high on the Pistons' list,
Boozer may not be.

If he opts out, he will be leaving $12.6 million on the table. There has been
talk that he is looking for a multiyear deal that averages more than $16
million per year. Given Boozer's injury-filled career, even though he is
still only 26, the Pistons may not be willing to use two-thirds of their
available cap space on him.

The Pistons' cap space can also be used to facilitate trades. Either way,
Dumars was clear that he has no interest in waiting until the summer of 2010
to rebuild the roster.

Free agents can begin negotiating with teams July 1. Teams can begin signing
free agents July 7.

will not return to the bench next season.

Cowens, who has one year remaining on his contract, will be reassigned within
the organization. He will assist Dumars and do some scouting.
雖然他的合約還有一年，但是他會轉調其他部門的職位。 他將會幫Joe擔任斥侯工作。
The Pistons will not make a qualifying offer to forward Walter Herrmann ,
making him an unrestricted free agent on July 1. He is expected to play in
Europe.
