Pistons' Prince helps lead U.S. in rout of Canada

LAS VEGAS -- The United States couldn't shake Canada with offense alone.
Turning up the defense sure did the trick.

The Americans held the Canadians to just two field goals in a dominant second
quarter, pulling away for a 113-63 victory Saturday to remain unbeaten in the
FIBA Americas tournament.

Carmelo Anthony scored 25 points, equaling the second-best U.S. total in an
Olympic qualifying game, and Michael Redd added 19, including five
three-pointers. But the United States didn't pull away until it tightened its
defense after a competitive first quarter.

"In the second quarter, when the second group came in the game, our whole
goal 'Was don't worry what we got to do offensively,' " the Pistons' Tayshaun
Prince said, "just try to stop them from scoring because we gave up some
points in the first quarter."
小王子說在第二節當二軍上場時，因為他們在第一節失掉了一些分數，所以他們的目
標不是進攻，反而是要好好封鎖對方的得分。

Kobe Bryant had 15 points, Amare Stoudemire 12 and LeBron James 10 points,
eight rebounds and four assists for the Americans.

The U.S. (3-0) closes pool play tonight against Brazil.

Prince scored 10 points and grabbed three defensive rebounds in 19 minutes of
play while Pistons teammate Chauncey Billups made one three-pointer and
grabbed one defensive rebound in 17 minutes of play.

"Canada had made some outside shots in the first quarter," Prince said. "We
made it important, we made it imperative, at the end of the first quarter,
because we had come in the game and were fresh, we were maybe out there
40-something seconds. So we made it important to make some stops and get to
the glass and try to get a run going."

Canada (2-2) already has qualified for the second round.

NOTEBOOK: The Pistons signed forward Jarvis Hayes to a one-year deal for
added depth at small forward. He told the Free Press that it's unfair to call
him injury-prone. After a fine rookie debut, he lost almost two seasons to a
kneecap fracture. He played 81 games last season and said the injury is fully
healed. He expanded on his comments in an interview with WDFN-AM (1130) this
week.
Jarvis Hayes曾跟底特律自由報表示過，稱他是「痛痛人」並不公平。這星期Hayes
在接受底特律體育電台WDFN-AM (1130)訪問時再次重申那個觀點。

"I'll be a different player," Hayes said. "I've had an unfortunate injury in
my career that sidelined me for the better part of two seasons. When I'm
healthy, I think I'm still worthy of the 10th pick in the 2003 draft, which
was one of the best drafts in recent memory."

As far as what he thought of the Pistons while with the Washington Wizards
last season, he said, "They're a team that's definitely cocky, but cocky for
a reason. It's not overly cocky, they just know they have a good team and
every time they step on the court, they're out to take care of business."
