1 - What should the team look for in the draft?

The Pistons have a late second round pick. Last year, Joey D. seemingly drafted
younger clones of his current players. Alex Acker was his future Chauncey
Billups, Amir Johnson was his future Rasheed Wallace and Jason Maxiell was his
future Ben Wallace. Who will be this year's replacement? Perhaps Denham Brown

Although the Pistons had a horrible end to the season, they still boast one of
the most complete starting fives in recent NBA history and are still relatively
young. While Detroit has no glaring weaknesses, they have limited depth so
they will be looking to take the best available talent. However, Detroit
traded away its first round pick so unless they made a draft day trade, they
will have to wait until the last pick in the entire draft to make a selection.
It will be a crapshoot as to who is left, so management will likely not be able

probably won't break the playing rotation, but any player they can find to push
a starter just a little bit in practice would be a good one. Gerry McNamara
would be worth it on a flyer - he's a very smart player who can hit the outside

With the 60th pick in the NBA Draft, you wonder what will be left over once
Detroit gets a chance to select a player. Early on Gerry McNamara from
Syracuse was being mentioned in some draft circles as a possible pick. But with
GMac's recent groin injury which led to him cutting short his workout in
Orlando, his stock may be falling in the eyes of many. It's obvious Detroit
needs backcourt help though. If not McNamara, then somebody. Grabbing a kid so
late isn't something that will draw a lot of attention at this point or come
June 28th. If Joe Dumars can pull out a guy that will actually get minutes in
Flip Saunders tight rotation, it will be a miracle. Either way the Pistons need
help backing up Chauncey Billups and Rip Hamilton. I'm just not sure that will

Detroit still has one of the most balanced rosters you could ask for and with
only the #60 pick in this year's draft they really are unlikely to see any
impact on draft day. They could be a team that considers trading for a second
rounder, maybe Seattle at #40 to try and add some youth to the roster. This
draft is heavy in small forwards and if the right one drops maybe they pick a
more traditional small forward to put on the floor in smaller lineups and
rotate Prince to the PF in short spurts. If not that then it makes sense to
look for depth at point guard to try and reduce Chauncey Billups minutes during
the regular season. - Brian Robinson

Considering the Pistons’ draft position, their only hope is to grab the best
available talent and hope that he has NBA potential. With a solid backcourt
consisting of Billups and Hamilton, it wouldn’t hurt to maybe invest in a
point guard for the future. At this point in the draft, it is not expected that
the team will find a player that will have an immediate impact on the team.

The Pistons have only one selection in this year's draft, and the selection is
the 60th. Can the Pistons get a player with the last selection in the draft
that can contribute next season? It's possible. Is it more likely that this
pick ends up playing for the Pistons D-League team, the Sioux Falls Skyforce?
I'd have to bet on the D-League. If you don't recall the above names, those are
the last selections in each draft this decade. Hopefully the Pistons can change

It's the last pick of a weak draft, and Detroit don't have many roster spots
available. What the Pistons have usually done with picks this bad recently has
been just use it on overseas projects that they end up not bringing to the U.S.
This time, they could try picking up an NCAA player still left on the board.
Think about what hunger being a 60th pick will give you. Go for one of those
players that have been doubted all along even though they were killers in the
college level. Look for another Ben Wallace. - Adriano Albuquerque
