53 points on 36 percent shooting at that point – but he exploded for 13
points by the midway point of the fourth quarter to jump start Detroit’s

The win broke a two-game losing streak for the Pistons and made them 22-16
heading into Saturday night’s game with Sacramento, a winner at Boston on
Friday night. The Target Center has been a historically tough place for the

games there. They also had this working against them: Minnesota was 4-0 in
overtime games before Friday’s and the Pistons were 0-2. The T-wolves also
came in hot, winning seven of nine games in the new year.

Maxiell, bringing him off the bench for Wallace early in the second quarter
and going to him again in the second half, sometimes using him in defense-for-

rebounds and a big block on Foye in 14:33.

"I felt somebody push me in the back," said McDyess. "I turned around and it
was KG. He was saying stuff to me and I was like, ‘What? Oh, all right,' and
he threw the ball in my face."
"I wasn't going to swing," McDyess said. "It would have been a waste of time.
I never threw a punch but I wanted to. I guess I thought about the money.
Besides, I knew we would win the game without me, but I didn't think they
could win without KG. I'd take that trade anytime."

McDyess appeared to start the angry tangle by knocking Mark Madsen over with
a forearm shiver while they maneuvered for rebound position with 5:18 remaining
in regulation and the score tied.
Garnett got mad and chucked the ball at McDyess, who charged at Garnett with
his fist cocked. Garnett was poised to punch, too, and took a swipe at
McDyess as he partially retreated, but teammates and officials stayed between
the two and no blows were landed.
"Everyone in this locker room is behind Kevin Garnett 100 percent," Madsen
said.
Garnett had 14 points and tied a season high with 19 rebounds. He left the
building without commenting.

points over his last two outings. The Pistons didn't start out well, though
they were tied at 39 at the half. They shot 1-for-10 from 3-point range over

we were pretty fired up, especially late. I can't wait to get back to running
all of the plays for this offense."

with Webber's arrival and would still get plenty of playing time against

Rasheed Wallace said he harbored no "hatred" for coach Flip Saunders, as was
asserted in an ESPN.com story by Chris Sheridan on Thursday, and theirs was a
normal player-coach relationship.
"That was just some (junk) that Sheridan was trying to put out there to
create some controversy," Wallace said Friday. "Just a snake in paradise
saying I hate Flip, which is not true."
Wallace said he and Saunders have not agreed on every point, but that's
hardly unusual.
"At points in the season, coaches and players are going to have their
differences, but it's not to the point where I hate that man, or I think he's
a bad person," Wallace said. "It's nothing like that."
Wallace acknowledged he hasn't been playing up to his standards, and that,
more than anything else, is frustrating.
He is 16 for his last 53 shots and 7 for his last 29 3-point attempts.
"I am the one out there shooting badly, not Flip," Wallace said. "So I can
sit up there and try to blame my shooting woes on him, or say I hate him
because I am shooting bad.
"That cat (Sheridan) was just trying to start some controversy."

Sheridan, in his follow-up blog on ESPN.com, said he regretted using the word
"hate" but maintained there was discord between Wallace and Saunders.

After shootaround, Saunders announced Chris Webber would start against the
Timberwolves.
"Chris had a good practice (Thursday), and after talking to him, he said he
felt comfortable," Saunders said.
"I think it will help from the standpoint of him playing with our main guys.
I wanted to keep him on the floor with Chauncey to help make his transition
easier both offensively and defensively."
Webber had no problem with that.
"I better be ready, right?" he said before the game.
"It's good. I like the pressure," he said. This is a little sooner than I
expected, but I would rather speed my way along."
Another reason for starting Webber is to bring Jason Maxiell back into the
rotation. Against smaller, perimeter-oriented teams, Antonio McDyess and
Maxiell will be the main big men off the bench. Against bigger teams, Dale
Davis will play with McDyess.
For now, it appears Nazr Mohammed is out of the rotation.

Carmelo Anthony was supposed to be back on the court today, but a postponed
game extended his suspension another two days. So now he can watch another
highly anticipated return of a brawler: Ron Artest, back at the Palace.
"It's going to be crazy," Anthony said. "They might boo him (like) crazy out
there. I can't wait to see that game."
Artest can't, either. Sacramento's visit to Auburn Hills tonight is his first
road game against the Pistons since the brawl between Pacers players and
Detroit fans on Nov. 19, 2004.
"I haven't played there in a long time, and it's going to be a fun
environment," he said this week. "I'm looking forward to Detroit."
In the brawl, Artest charged into the stands trying to attack a fan who had
hit him with a beverage. He was suspended for the remainder of that season
and didn't play for either the Pacers or the Kings, to whom he was traded,
during their trips to Detroit last season.
"It will be interesting to see how our fans react to Artest," Pistons CEO Tom
Wilson said. "But I don't think anything will be out of hand. If fans are
close to unruly with heckling, we'll move them."
Artest isn't expecting any trouble, saying he already was treated with
respect by fans during a trip to Comerica Park last summer.
"Sometimes things happen once in a lifetime," he said. "I think that was a
once-in-a-lifetime thing. I can't see it happening again."
