Q. What's one thing you know now that you wish you knew when you were 20? (
Harper is 43.)
    問：有哪件事是你希望自己在20歲時就知道的嗎？(Harper現在43歲)

A. Nothing really, in that I always knew I had to work hard and keep trying to
improve myself. And that never stops, no matter how old you are or what you're
doing. I'm glad I knew that early on.
    答：沒什麼特別的，在20歲時我就知道自己必須要努力，持續嘗試讓自己更進步。而
不管年紀多大或在做什麼事，我從未停止追求變得更優秀。我很高興我很早就知道人生該
這麼過。

Q. I see you out there in practice, at times beating up on the current players.
Ever think you could still play in the NBA?
    問：我看到你在練習時上場打球，甚至好幾次還擊敗了現役球員。你曾想過自己還能
在NBA打球嗎？

A. That's the toughest part about being retired; there are times where you
think you can still do it. And then reality sets in. (Harper laughs.) I think I
could play, maybe like 5, 8, 10 minutes, pick and choose my spots. With some of
the stats these guys today have, I know I could do that.
    答：那對一個已經退休的球員來說是最難面對的事，確實會有好幾次你會認為自己還
可以繼續上場打球。而之後事實會讓你清醒。(Harper笑了)我認為我還可以打球，或許是
打個5、8或10分鐘之類的，挑挑揀揀總會有我的位置。看看今天那些傢伙的數據，我知道
換作自己也做得到。

But that's the competitor talking. The 43-year-old guy knows there is a
different answer.

Q. So you're content to play in practice?
    問：所以你對於能在練習時上場打球已經感到滿意？

A. Back in the day we used our skill. Now it's more using your head. You know
the shot you want to do, you know the steps to take. I'm not going to dribble
or fake four or five times before I get the shot off. I make the move, get the
shot off. And that's the difference between me and the young'uns.
    答：在我們的年代我們多倚賴技巧討生活，而現在你卻得靠你的腦袋在聯盟中生存。
你知道自己想要的投射，你知道自己要走的每一步。我不用在運球時做上四、五次假動作
才出手投籃。我只要移動，把球投出去。而那就是我們和現在年輕球員的不同之處。

Q. Like Amir (Johnson)?
    問：你喜歡A.Johnson嗎？

A. Oh yes, especially him. He's just a baby. (Johnson is 19.) He'll say to me,
"Coach, I'll bust you up!" And I just laugh and tell him that I'm 43, and he
surely wouldn't be busting me up if I was his age. I tell him, back in the day
when I was your age, we wouldn't have known who you were. And he comes back, "
No coach, I'm telling you, I was this or that in high school."
    答：噢，是的，我特別喜歡他。他根本就是個孩子(Johnson才19歲)。他會跟我說"教
練，我要操爆你！"而我聽了只是笑一笑並告訴他我已經43歲了，而如果我跟他同年紀，他
肯定沒辦法操爆我。我告訴他，如果我回到跟他一樣的年紀，將沒有人知道你是哪位。而
他回說，"不，教練，我告訴你，我在高中時就是個響噹噹的人物。"

Whatever. If I was 19 today, I probably would have been in the league too. And
I would have been playing more.
    不管怎樣。如果我現在19歲，我可能也已經在聯盟中打滾了。而且我可能會獲得比他
更多的上場時間。

Q. Best practical jokes you played when you were in the NBA?
    問：你還在NBA打球時做過最有趣的惡作劇是？

A. Oh man, when I was in Chicago, we did all kinds of stuff. It was the big men
versus the guards, and you never, ever wanted to be out by yourself. You needed
to be with others, or they'd get you.
    答：噢，老兄，當我還在芝加哥時，我們幾乎什麼把戲都玩過。那是大個子對決後衛

We did everything: eggs and shaving cream in shoes, IcyHot in jocks. We'd knock
on the door (of a teammate's hotel room) -- with a bucket of ice water -- and
then hit the guy when he opened it. You name it, we did it.

Q. Last movie you saw?
    問：最近一次看的電影是？

A. (Answered by 6-year-old Ron Harper Jr.). We saw "Happy Feet" and it was good
. It was about penguins. (Dad nods.)
    答：(由六歲的Harper二世代答)我們看了"快樂腳"，真的很精采。那是關於企鵝的故
事(Harper老爹點了點頭)。

Q. Do you collect anything?
    問：你有在收集任何東西嗎？

A. Not really. I used to collect jerseys when I played, from other guys. But
now, I don't have the time.
    答：沒特別收集什麼。當我還在打球時，我會收集其他球員的球衣。但現在我沒有多
餘的時間這麼做。

Q. Worst city to drive in?
    問：最難以開車進入的城市？

A. Driving in New York used to really scare me. All that traffic, it was
intimidating. But I think I've gotten over it, by driving there more.
    答：開車進紐約這件事總是讓我害怕。到處都是車子，充滿了威脅。但我認為我已經
克服了這件事，多開車去幾次就習慣了。

Q. Coldest city you've ever lived in?
    問：住過最冷的城市？

A. Without a doubt, Detroit -- right now. Wow. I thought Chicago was cold, but
it's only bad by the lakeshore. Detroit is cold all over. This is worse. Much
worse.
    答：無庸置疑，就是底特律 -- 現在所住的地方。噢。我認為芝加哥已經夠冷了，但
當地只有湖畔比較冷。底特律是到處都很冷，這真的很糟，糟透了。
