WASHINGTON, D.C. - Just what you would expect with two teams playing their
fourth game in five nights early in the season, right? An old ABA-style
shootout. Not.

were. I mean, the playing field was pretty even as far as that goes."

After the Wizards shrunk a 13-point Pistons lead to five with 5:17 left,
Billups started attacking. He made two free throws to stop the Wizards' 8-0 run
. Then he made a tough-angle bullet pass to Flip Murray for a layup and found
Rasheed Wallace for a jumper.

seconds left. That's when things got really crazy. On six straight possessions,
the Wizards scored quickly. On three of them, they hit long 3-pointers. On the
inbounds play, Prince passed it to Billups, who was fouled immediately.

point in Memphis Friday, scored 28 points. Caron Butler hit 12 of 16 shots and
finished with 25. Antawn Jamison added 22.

The Pistons will play 22 back-to-backs this season, tied with Cleveland,
Sacramento and Milwaukee for the most in the league, but seven fewer than
defending champion Miami and Western Conference champion Dallas (each play 15
sets).

"From a league standpoint, you would hope you wouldn't have a discrepancy of
seven games," Saunders said. "That's seven extra games that are going to be
tougher for you to win."

It's not all on the league, though. The event-filled Palace plays a role in the

for all the lucrative concerts that The Palace hosts.
