The Portland Trail Blazers came to the Palace with the second-worst record in
the Western Conference, depleted by injuries and mired in a five-game losing
streak.

All that considered, it would seem that Portland would be hard-pressed to snap
out of its funk on the road.

were young and hungry for a victory, and couldn't care less about their current

The Blazers beat the Pistons, 88-85, Tuesday night at the Palace, giving
Detroit its third losing streak of the season.

One reason for the loss, Pistons coach Flip Saunders said, was Portland's style
of play -- slow-down, isolation basketball, which led to ex-Michigan State star
Zach Randolph's huge night. Randolph scored 31 points and grabbed 13 rebounds
in his third 30-point performance in four nights.

finishing with a team-high 25 points.

Until there was 4:10 left, Hamilton was the only starter to score in double
