AUBURN HILLS -- The first thing you do, if you are trying to get your mind
around the Pistons-Bulls Eastern Conference semifinal series, is forget about
the four regular season games. Very little of what happened in those games will
reveal much about what's about to happen in this series.
    奧本山訊 -- 如果你想關心活塞vs公牛的東區準決賽，你要做的第一件事就是把四場

Both teams are healthier, stronger, more efficient and more focused now than
they were then. The Bulls were by far the hungrier team during the regular
season. They were trying to prove a point, while the Pistons were just trying
to get it over with. They are playing for keeps now, and both teams will be
similarly motivated.
    比起當時，兩支球隊現在都更健康、更強壯、更有效率而且更專注於比賽之中。與例

Both teams will be ridiculously rested, too, almost to the point of being a
little rusty at the start.

If you want a historical perspective -- this series is reminiscent of the 1990
Bulls-Pistons Eastern Conference final. The Bulls, led by a young Michael
Jordan, had been the rising star in the East for a couple of years. Their last
hurdle was a proud bunch of veteran former champion Pistons. The Bulls took the
Pistons to seven heart-stopping games before coming up short again.

They would learn their lesson, sweep the Pistons the following year and go on
to win three NBA titles.

This series has the same feel as that 1990 series. The Bulls are young, feisty
and hungry. They have no fear of the elder Pistons, and only a begrudging
respect. The question becomes, are they ready? Do they have enough talent,
experience and depth to knock the Pistons off right now?
    這個系列賽給人的感覺就像'90年的東區冠軍賽。公牛是年輕、好鬥且饑渴的。他們無

Time will tell. In the meantime, here are five keys to the series:

1. Perimeter lockdown
    一、外線球員的封鎖

Whereas the focus against Orlando in the first round was to fortify the
interior defense against Dwight Howard, the Pistons this series will have to
exert their force a little further out.
    與第一輪和奧蘭多魔術的對戰焦點在於鞏固內線防守以阻擋D.Howard相比，這個系列

The Bulls' strength is their three perimeter guns -- Kirk Hinrich, Ben Gordon
and Luol Deng. They run a bunch of pick-and-rolls and weaves and are in
constant motion. If Hinrich and Deng are able to penetrate off the dribble, it
will erode the Pistons' defense. They will either score at the basket, or the
Pistons frontcourt players will have to slide over to help, which will leave
Ben Wallace or P.J. Brown open for dunks.

Gordon is a different problem unto himself. He is deadly from the perimeter and
can make plays off the dribble. Richard Hamilton will most likely draw this
assignment, but it will be interesting to see how much coach Flip Saunders uses
traps and zones against him.

The Bulls perimeter quickness burned the moribund Heat, and it has had great
success against the Pistons. How the Pistons deal with it could tell the tale
of the series.

2. Pest control

The Pistons have to keep their cool. During the season, shoot, during the last
couple of seasons, they have allowed the likes of Hinrich, Andres Nocioni and
coach Scott Skiles to get under their skin and into their heads.

Those guys are notorious irritants. Hinrich had both Hamilton and Chauncey

want, and it's exactly what the Pistons can't let happen.

many mismatches. But they will find a way to stop them every time in a

Nocioni is going to play with flying elbows and undercuts and hard fouls. It's
what he does. The Pistons have to match his intensity without letting him draw
them into a shoving and shouting match.

The best tonic, as we've seen, against Nocioni is for Rasheed Wallace to rain
jumpers on him all game.

3. Friend or foe?

The Pistons can have dinner with Ben Wallace all they want, after the series is
over.

They need to put their friendship on ice for a couple of weeks. They need to
get serious against him, because it's a stone fact that Wallace is coming to
put a whupping on his buddies.

The Pistons should know better than most teams how to exploit Wallace.

Wallace is going to be there to contest the shot. Look to pass. And the best
way to attack Wallace is to go right at him.

Chris Webber has a lot of low-post game left in him, and he's the type of guy
that can wear Wallace down -- or at least make him play honest at the defensive

4. Dealing with Deng

Deng is a very good player. Potentially, he can be a great player. But he's not
there yet. The Miami Heat made him look like the second coming of Scottie
Pippen. He cannot have the same success in this series.

Tayshaun Prince, second-team all-defensive pick, will draw the initial
assignment and he's a much better defender than anybody the Heat threw at Deng.
But the Pistons have a lot of other options. Hamilton could play him. Carlos
Delfino will play him. The Pistons could also use Ronald Dupree on him for
stretches.
    入選本季年度最佳防守第二隊的小王子將會接下在第一線防守滷蛋的任務，比起熱火

The key will be -- and this is true of the whole Bulls offense -- to keep him
out of transition.

The Bulls are a fair-weather team. If Deng and Gordon get a couple of easy
buckets early, that basket is going to look like an ocean and they are going to
roll. If they have to grind out possession after possession, they won't get
into that easy rhythm they were in against the Heat.

5. Bench press

Bench play in the playoffs is always overrated. Because the games are spaced
out and the timeouts so long, the starters play longer. That said, the Pistons
have the deeper, more useful bench.
    板凳的發揮在季後賽總是被高估了。因為球賽與比賽之間的間距拉長了而且暫停時間
相當的長，而先發球員也會上場更久。話說，比起過去一兩個球季，活塞擁有更深厚、更
有能力的板凳群。

Nocioni (who has played with a leg injury) and Chris Duhon are the Bulls'
primary reserves. They didn't use Tyrus Thomas, Thabo Sefolosha or Malik Allen
much in the first round.
    帶著腳傷上陣的Nocioni和C.Duhon是公牛主要的替補球員。第一輪的比賽中，T.T、
T.Sefolosha或M.Allen的上場時間都很少。

The Pistons will use Antonio McDyess a lot, given the smallish nature of the
Bulls. Delfino, Lindsey Hunter, Flip Murray and Jason Maxiell could all see
minutes.
    活塞將會相當倚賴袋鼠，考量到公牛的陣容較為矮小，Delfino、獵人、魔銳和J.
Maxiell都會分到一些上場時間。

Hunter didn't play much against Orlando, but he would be a good antidote to
some of the Bulls' dribble-driving. Maxiell was an effective player against
small lineups, and against Ben Wallace in particular, in spurts during the
regular season. Those two, plus perhaps Dupree in short spurts, could make an
impact.
    獵人在面對魔術的比賽中上場不多，但他或許會是活塞對付公牛球員運球切入秘密武
器。Maxiell在面對矮小陣容時表現很有效率，特別是在面對班蛙時，他在例行賽期間和班
