NEW YORK -- It had seemed a foregone conclusion since, oh, the end of November?
By then, the Pistons had separated themselves so greatly from the rest of the
Eastern Conference that it seemed logical to pencil in Flip Saunders as coach
of the Eastern Conference All-Star team.

But Wednesday's win over Atlanta gave the Pistons a 31-5 record and made that
official. No other East team can mathematically catch Detroit's winning
percentage before Feb. 5, the deadline that places the winningest coach into
the job.

DAVIS DRAMA: Seconds after Knicks forward Antonio Davis entered the stands in
overtime in Chicago on Wednesday night, the ESPN pundits started circling the
highlight, calling it a flashback to the brawl that started when Indiana's Ron
Artest entered the stands at the Palace on Nov. 19, 2004. But Davis climbed
over the press table and bolted up the stairs because he said he thought his
wife was in trouble. So coach Larry Brown was irked about the comparison. "
There was no correlation between those two events," Brown said. "Tony saw his
wife and little kid in difficulty. ... I think he looked up in the stands and
saw his wife struggling and thought that was the right thing to do." Brown
called Davis' five-game suspension "excessive."

they reacted."
