In just a couple of short years, Chauncey Billups has gone from a vagabond
player bouncing from team to team, to NBA champion and NBA Finals MVP, to most
likely his first All-Star appearance this season and now, perhaps, a U.S.
Olympian.
Not bad work.

"It's crazy, man," Billups said after shoot-around Tuesday. "It just shows that

Jerry Colangelo, managing director of the U.S. men's national basketball team,
told The News on Monday that there is a spot on the team for Billups and the
only question is finalizing the commitment.
"I wish the timing was a little different," Billups said.
美國代表隊的總經理Colangelo在星期一對媒體透露他們已經為槍蜥保留一個位置，現在唯

Colangelo is asking players to make a three-year commitment; to play in the
World Championships this summer, perhaps another qualifying tournament in 2007
and the Olympics in Beijing in 2008. Billups' wife, Piper, is expecting to
deliver the couple's third child this summer, so Billups probably would not
play in the World Championships.

Colangelo and Billups' agent, Andy Miller, have been discussing, among other

"We are having ongoing conversations right now, going back and forth discussing

Colangelo told The News he could be flexible in terms of Billups' schedule this
summer.

Billups would be 31 in the summer of 2008, so he knows this is probably his
last chance to play basketball for his country.

important thing is my family. Nothing else. If they did allow me that time, and
I could join the team the next summer, or whatever, then I would definitely
play."

NBA commissioner David Stern isn't about to let on whom he might select to
replace injured Pacers forward Jermaine O'Neal on the Eastern Conference
All-Star team, but he made it clear Tuesday that he holds no grudges against
Rasheed Wallace or any other player.

Asked directly if there is any trepidation on his part about having Wallace,

of the starters. He won't be able to play because of a groin injury. The system
works like this: Coaches will select the seven reserves for each team. After
that, Stern will select replacement players.

third straight NBA coach-of-the-month honor for Saunders. No other coach has
won the honor three straight months, let alone the first three months of a
season. Saunders won it with an 11-2 November and a 13-2 December. The Pistons
were 13-2 in January.
