TORONTO -- High-scoring players tend to get a lot of fouls called on opponents
trying to guard them.

Detroit Pistons guard Richard Hamilton has heard that before, but he's not
buying it -- at least, not when it comes to himself.

Hamilton is currently 18th in the league in scoring with a 21.2 points-per-game
average. However, he's averaging less than four free-throw attempts per game,

Only Phoenix's Shawn Marion, who averages 21.7 points per game, is getting to
the free-throw line less than Hamilton among the NBA's top 20 scorers.

That the 6-foot-7 Hamilton scores a lot of his points on mid-range jump shots
has impacted the amount of times he gets fouled. However, even when he drives
to the basket and draws contact, it's rare that a whistle is blown.

"It's crazy," Hamilton said. "With me coming off curls and screens, it's really

strengths. For him, if he has an open 14-foot shot, that's like a layup. What I

Pistons guard Lindsey Hunter has played with and against Hamilton, and is
convinced that Hamilton is quick and smart enough to get to the free-throw line
whenever he wants to.

"But he's so good shooting that medium-range jumper . . . you can't blame him

Saunders believes one of Hamilton's strengths -- the ability to take contact
and not have his rhythm disrupted -- is one of the reasons he doesn't get many
free-throw attempts.

"What happens a lot of times with him, even when he gets hit, he has a unique

thing with him is to stay aggressive."

Rasheed Wallace is among those who will miss Temple coach John Chaney, who
announced his retirement earlier this week.

"He's got a legacy there," said Wallace, a Philadelphia native who was
recruited by Chaney out of Simon Gratz High School, where Chaney coached prior

coach."

Toronto has made at least one 3-pointer in 595 consecutive games, an NBA record
. . . . The Raptors are No. 2 in the NBA in fewest turnovers per game (13.1),
just behind Detroit's 11.2. That's not that surprising since the Raptors are
coached by Sam Mitchell, a former player under Saunders in Minnesota.
