SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- If only NBA labels were as easy to discard as those you
find on the back of t-shirts.

A simple yank and you have a label-free garment. However, NBA players have
found that getting rid of labels requires great effort on their part, in an
attempt to prove themselves.

Detroit Pistons guard Carlos Arroyo is well aware of that.

He knows his ability as a player has been questioned -- is he the guy who
started for Utah a couple seasons ago, or the one who spent much of the
playoffs last season watching from the Pistons bench because then-head coach
Larry Brown didn't have a lot of confidence in him to run the team?

get better," he said. "It's an individual challenge I got. I don't feel I have
to prove anything to anybody."

Still, he admits he needs to play better this season than he did when he
arrived in Detroit via a midseason trade last season from Utah.

That added motivation has manifested itself into a solid start to the season
for the point guard. Arroyo has arguably been the best and most consistent
Piston reserve.

In Detroit's first three games, Arroyo is averaging 6.7 points and 5.7 assists

Before the season, Pistons coach Flip Saunders talked about how Arroyo was
beginning to understand what was expected from him.

While Saunders doesn't give Arroyo free reign to do whatever he wants,Saunders'
offensive system does seem to be a better fit for Arroyo's skills.

After two seasons under Saunders in Minnesota, starting point guard Chauncey
Billups knew Arroyo would thrive in Saunders' system.

Saunders的系統下成長茁壯。

"I was like, `You're gonna be the happiest dude in the world,' because he's
gonna let you play," Billups recalls telling Arroyo.
    Billups回憶起過去並告訴Arroyo"我過去也是這樣，'你將會覺得自己是世界上最幸
福的傢伙，因為他會讓你放手去打。'"

Saunders' offense involves a lot of pick-and-roll plays, something Arroyo had a
lot of success with when he was in Utah. Saunders' system also has the point
guard making more reads, which helps a pass-first player such as Arroyo.
    Saunders的進攻系統包括許多PNR的play，而那正是Arroyo還在猶他打球時便表現地很

The 6-foot-3 Arroyo believes an even bigger factor for his improved play has
been the confidence Saunders has shown in him.

"Definitely, part of that has to do with him giving me confidence,and believing
in me and me believing in myself," Arroyo said. "There's nothing better than

Arroyo's talent has never an issue for his teammates.

Billups has always felt an unspoken kinship with Arroyo. Like Arroyo, Billups
bounced around with a few teams before arriving in Detroit. And like Arroyo,
Billups has also been second-guessed as a player.
    Billups總覺得他和Arroyo有某種無法以言語描述的相似關係。像Arroyo一樣，Billups
在輾轉來到底特律之前曾待過好幾支球隊；另外也和Arroyo一樣，Billups在這裡找到了球

Billups has made the most of his opportunity to shine in Detroit and he
believes Arroyo will do the same this season.
    Billups把握住了他在底特律發光發熱的機會，而他也相信Arroyo本季將會和他一樣，

"This is going to be a great season for him," Billups said. "He's going to be
able to show people . . . Carlos, he's a starting point guard in the league.
He's a starting point guard and he'll be able to show people that that's who he
is."
    Billups說"本季對他來說將會是一個偉大的球季，他將讓人們記住他的名字叫做Carlos
，是一個足以勝任聯盟中任何一支球隊先發控衛的狠腳色。"

Then, perhaps Arroyo would be tagged with a more appealing label.

"He'll be able to detach himself from a lot of that stuff this year," Billups
said. "He has a very important role.Teams have to worry about him when he comes
off the bench. He deserves that respect and that credit."
    Billups說"他今年將可以讓自己變得更引人注目。他會扮演一個很重要的腳色，看到
他從板凳席走出來準備上場時，對手將會開始擔心，而他的表現也絕對值得這份重視及尊
敬。
