Fred McLeod: The newest installment of SPOTLIGHT profiles Pistons point guard
and NBA MVP candidate Chauncey Billups. The show chronicles Billups' ascent to
NBA stardom, a career that got off to a slow start as he made four stops in his
first five seasons, prior to finding the right fit in Detroit. A can't miss
prospect during his high school days in Denver, Billups went on to make an
impact for two seasons at the University of Colorado before moving on to the
NBA. SPOTLIGHT examines Billups' upbringing, some personal setbacks he had to
overcome, those who have influenced his career, and what qualities have made
him one of the NBA's most valuable -- if not underappreciated -- performers.
Others appearing in the show include Pistons President of Basketball Operations
Joe Dumars, head coach Flip Saunders, teammate Antonio McDyess and Billups'
high school coach Edward Calloway, Sr.

Billups on his "other" sport as a youth:

"Actually football was number one for me. I love football, man I love football.
The only reason I got into basketball was I needed something to do when it
wasn't football season. I needed something to do, so I started to play
basketball and I just fell in love with it. I played both for like three or
four years and then I just quit playing football all together and focused all
my attention on playing basketball."
"事實上，以前美式足球才是我的最愛，我熱愛美式足球，老兄，我就是愛美式足球。
我唯一一個踏入籃球領域的原因就是因為我必須在非美式足球球季時找些樂子來做，所以

Billups on why he wore uniform #4 in high school:

"It was because of Joe Dumars. I just loved Joe Dumars' game. Magic (Johnson)
was my favorite player that I like to watch, but my favorite backcourt was
always Isiah and Joe. I wore number 4 because like I said, it had a lot to do
with Joe and how he played the game, just so graceful, just so respectful and
you never (saw) him out of character out there. And I just think we're similar
in that way sometimes."
"因為老喬也穿4號球衣，我熱愛老喬的球賽。魔術是我最喜歡的球員，我喜歡看魔術
打球，但我最喜歡的後場組合還是笑笑湯與老喬。我當時選擇4號球衣的原因就像我剛說的
，那跟老喬以及他打球的風格有絕大的關聯，他打起球來是如此優雅，如此令人尊敬，而
且你一定沒看過他有什麼失態的表現，我認為我跟他有某些方面還挺相似的。
Dumars on the similarity between the way he and Billups play the game, and the
similar impact the two have had on the Pistons franchise:

"I looked at him and I said, I recognize that game."

win it or lose it. He doesn't care if he takes a shot and misses it. He'll take
the next time and make it."
