AUBURN HILLS -- Pistons forward Antonio McDyess never loses perspective. No
matter what happens on the court, a tough victory already has been won.
奧本山-活塞前鋒買個袋子從沒失去過對未來的展望。不管在場上發生了什麼

McDyess, 32, is well into the fourth season of an improbable medical
comeback, proving there can be a career for an athlete after multiple serious
knee injuries.

A slower-than-usual start this season tested McDyess' confidence, as he
wasn't sure how hard to push his potentially fragile body. Things have turned
around, and McDyess knows he has learned some lessons.

"It's been a really frustrating first few months for me because I wanted to
have good games and play well, but it wasn't coming," he said. "It's not like
anything you can click on and off; when it comes -- and you hope it's still
there -- it comes. I think when I started focusing on myself and not worrying
about making mistakes or not making shots, that's when everything turned."

McDyess' patience paid off -- he's gone from averaging 4.9 points in November
to 7.5 in January.

"I just played and put everything behind me when things went wrong," he said.
"I just kept going; that's the only way you can play. I had to stay calm and
really try to keep positive."

The midrange jumpers that were clanging off the rim -- or missing entirely --

The Pistons understood McDyess is a slow starter. But this slump was a little
deeper, and more frustrating than usual.

"If something like this had happened when I was younger, oh, man, I would
have gone nuts," McDyess said. "When you're younger, you put so much pressure
on yourself to turn things around. But then, the more pressure you put on
yourself, the worse situation you put yourself in. I'm just fortunate
everything has worked out."

McDyess is back in his groove, and the Pistons are benefiting.

"I think a lot of people were concerned earlier in the year (about McDyess),
but I said, 'This is 'Dyess, just wait, he'll be fine after January,'?" coach
Flip Saunders said. "And that's pretty much how everything held true to form.
I just want to make sure we keep him healthy."

That always is the concern with McDyess: How long will his borrowed time last?

Knee injuries denied McDyess of being one of the most explosive jumpers in
the NBA. The damage reads like an orthopedic surgeon's nightmare: torn left
patella tendon (2001), fractured left patella (2002) and then a bone graft in
2003 to stabilize the kneecap.
膝蓋的傷勢讓買個袋子不再是NBA最有爆發力的跳跳人之一。他的損傷讀起來

"The last time (2002) I went down, I remember sitting in the doctor's office
as he looked at my scans," McDyess said. "I could tell he wanted to say
something along the lines of that I'd never play again. He didn't want to say
that, he said something like I might be able to play -- or maybe not. But I
knew from looking at his face that I was in serious trouble, he thought I was
done. And I thought I was done, too."

Long road back

McDyess endured three major surgeries, months of rehab, missed nearly two
seasons and feared a promising career was cut short.

But McDyess, thanks to hard work and the Pistons taking a chance, has been
reborn.

He played in 77 games his first season with the Pistons (2004-05), but it
ended in disappointment. He was one of the last Pistons to walk off the floor
in San Antonio, tears in his eyes, crushed from losing Game 7 of the Finals.

It was validation of a sort, being back with the best, following his arduous
rehabilitation.

"I just take it day to day, all of it, because it's important for me to
always remember that I never thought I would have this second chance,"
McDyess said. "I never take anything, when I step out on the court, for
granted.

"I think I try to mostly focus on trying to get a ring. I really haven't put
