10. The Pistons were off to a 16-21 start during the 1985-86
season -- Joe’s rookie year. After being installed in the
starting line-up, the club went 30-15 the rest of the way to
finish 46-36 and advanced to the first round of the NBA Playoffs.

9. Joe Dumars won both citizenship/sportsmanship awards that
are handed out in the NBA. In 1993-94, he received the J.
Walter Kennedy Award by the Professional Basketball Writers

Piston to receive the honor joining Dave Bing, Bob Lanier, Kent
Benson and Isiah Thomas. Dumars also won the inaugural NBA
Sportsmanship Award in 1996-97. The NBA now presents the "Joe

Michigan State guard Sam Vincent.

7. Joe Dumars' fierce competitive drive was born in his Louisiana
home backyard at an early age. With his brothers all playing
football, Joe D chose to play basketball as a challenge. At the
time -- he was a better football player (a defensive back) than
a basketball player. He worked to become a great basketball player
because all five of his brothers were exceptional at playing football.
