June 30, Toronto Star: The general manager has narrowed down his list of
possible additions to 10 or so, he said. It's no secret that Orlando's Grant
Hill is among those high on that list.

Colangelo isn't giving away any secrets on who he covets most except to say
he's got his priorities set.

"Sometimes in free agency you have to over-pay and we're willing to over-pay
if we feel like we're going to get the right player," he said. "What we keep
talking about is consistency at the small forward position, but we want to
add the best possible player."

June 30, AZCentral: Phoenix's roster moves could end in a hurry if Grant Hill
says yes to the Suns.

He will get his first chance today when the Suns make him their free agency
priority with the first allowable phone call at 9 p.m. Sources in each
conference said they believe Phoenix tops Hill's list, which also includes
San Antonio, Detroit, Toronto and Orlando.

Hill also would fit Phoenix's priorities as a versatile, high-character
veteran. The Suns can't comment on free agents but General Manager Steve Kerr
shared his approach.

"We'd like to add some experience," Kerr said. "We just added two rookies who
are going to be raw and they're not going to know what's going on out there
so we'd like to balance that out with guys who have been there . . . or I
should say a player that's been there before.

June 30, ESPN.com: Phoenix and San Antonio are offering only the veteran
minimum salary for next season to Grant Hill: $1.2 million, with nearly
$450,000 of that amount paid by the league office from a fund for veterans.

Yet one source insisted early Sunday that he's already convinced that the
injury-tortured Hill, having just completed a $93 million deal with Magic, is
"going to Phoenix for sure." 

That would be welcome news in the desert, since the Suns are desperate for
savvy veterans to improve the team's overall IQ and since Hill is the only
free agent Phoenix is looking to add to its hefty payroll.

June 29, Toronto Star: Grant Hill may indeed sign with the Pistons, there's
lots of talk out there but if he wants to win a ring, San Antonio is the
place to be. That you cannot dispute.

And there are people in the NBA who are way smarter than me or you (hard as
that may be to believe) who think a chance to play for a ring is better in
Toronto than it is in Detroit. And I can certainly see that point.

July 1, ESPN.com: Free agent sharpshooter Jason Kapono has quickly reached an
agreement Sunday to leave the Miami Heat and sign a four-year deal believed
to be worth $24 million with the Toronto Raptors.

The Raptors already had a team salary just over $51 million before the move,
barely under the $53+ million cap. Therefore, it's safe to assume Toronto
used a good portion of their mid-level exception to sign Kapono, eating up
any money they had to lure Hill.

Jason Kapono has reportedly agreed to a four-year, $24 million deal with
Toronto, which means the likelihood of the Raptors wanting him back - or him
to even want to go back - doesn't exist anymore.

That means you can probably move him up a spot or two in Detroit's list of
small forward targets this summer. Grant Hill is still atop the leader board.
But if he chooses to go somewhere besides Detroit, don't be surprised if the
Pistons then turn their attention to Mo Peterson.

Detroit had a lot of interest in him prior to last season's trading deadline.
If Detroit was willing to give up Antonio McDyess at the time, the deal would
have probably been done. 

I'll have more on the Pistons and their first day of free agency later in
Booth Newspapers and mlive.com.

I've talked to a couple other folks around the league who said the $24
million number for Kapono may be a bit high (yah think?). Hopefully, a more
accurate figure will be coming out soon. I can't imagine paying that kind of
money for such a one-dimensional player.

If Detroit does go after Mo Pete, their stiffest competition will likely come
from Utah and Denver.

July 1, The Journal Times: Several NBA officials and agents believe the Bucks
have offered Williams a contract for about $40 million over five years. The
Memphis Grizzlies were expected to be Williams' primary suitor during free
agency, but their interest in the 24-year-old point guard has undoubtedly
waned since selecting Michael Conley II of Ohio State in Thursday night's NBA
draft.

Several other teams are believed to be interested in Williams, including
Indiana, Miami and the Los Angeles Lakers. However, those teams can only
offer Williams the mid-level exception of $5.8 million per year. The
aforementioned teams could also try to acquire Williams in a sign-and-trade
deal, but none of those teams has a point guard the Bucks certainly would
want in return.

Williams is generally regarded as the second-best point guard in free agency
behind Chauncey Billups of the Detroit Pistons. The Bucks had more than a
passing interest in Billups, but aren't likely to exceed the Pistons'
lucrative four-year, $52 million offer.
