AUBURN HILLS -- The NBA is littered with players who talk about making
sacrifices and being team players.
    奧本山訊 -- NBA中到處都有口口聲聲說著要為球隊犧牲個人成績以爭取團隊榮譽的球

Tayshaun Prince isn't one of those guys. He never talks about it. He just does
it, game in and game out, year in and year out.

And for his efforts, Prince, universally regarded as one of the most diversely
skilled small forwards, will not be selected to the Eastern Conference All-Star
team for the sixth straight year.

"I am never going to be recognized as an All-Star player unless I put up
numbers," Prince said after practice Sunday. "In this league, they won't say

situation where you didn't have to put up numbers to make an All-Star team, I
would have already been on one a long time ago."

Prince is averaging 13 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists -- not All-Star
numbers, to be sure. But the Pistons have the second-best record in the East
and, third-best in the league. And Prince's versatility has been as responsible
for that as Richard Hamilton's 19 points a game or Chauncey Billups' 18 points
and seven assists.

a potential all-star),' " Prince said. "I say the same thing -- only a few guys
make an All-Star team, ala Ben Wallace, for what they do on the defensive end.
Marcus Camby is another guy who I think is deserving, and he's only averaging
10 points a game. I'm not one of them. The stuff I do on the floor doesn't
really show up on the stat sheet.

Understand this: If Prince wanted to, he could easily have put himself in a
situation where he was the first or second offensive option on another team,
and he would certainly be putting up All-Star worthy offensive numbers.

Prince was a restricted free agent in the summer of 2005. Just about every team
in the league was interested, many of them would have been glad to make him
their top offensive option. Prince wasn't interested and re-signed quickly and
quietly, a six-year, $50 million contract that will keep him with the Pistons
through 2011.

been some sacrifice as far as what I am able to do on the floor, but the reward
has been great."

Prince's rookie season. He has seen many talented young players come into the
league, and in their haste to establish themselves, disrupt a team's chemistry.

"Guys as talented as Tay, they tend to want to come in and show their value by

came into a winning environment. From the beginning he learned that when you
win as a team, you get all the individual glory. The contracts and all of that,
he got from winning, not from what he was doing individually."

, the delicate balance of the Pistons' starting unit would be thrown out of

"You could take all of our guys and put them on different teams and they would
all score more and have better statistics -- but not necessarily the same type
of success," Curry said. "Tay is the perfect complement for this team.
Defensively, he can guard multiple positions. Offensively, he's able to go get
his shot or draw a double-team and get his teammates shots. He's the total
package and for him to play so unselfishly, he just fits with the whole theme
of this team."
    "你可以把我們的球員放到其他球隊而他們會拿出更好的統計數據 -- 但球隊不一定能

Hitting stride
    大步向前行

Prince, by his own admission, hasn't had his best season up until now. But the
victory against Orlando on Friday was an example of why his offensive
production has fluctuated so much this season. The Pistons established Rasheed
Wallace and Hamilton early in the game, and both were smoking hot.
    小王子自己承認到目前為止還沒打出職業代表球季。但星期五對奧蘭多勝出的比賽剛
好成了本季他得分表現起伏不定的最佳註解。活塞打從一開賽就把攻擊重心擺在溪蛙和RIP

"At that point, I've got to fall back and let them do their thing," Prince said
. "I just have to get in where I fit in. But look, if I shoot 3-for-12 and
we're up by 25 points, I have to roll with the punches. There have been a lot
of scenarios like that this year."

Prince, by the way, found a way to contribute a season-high eight assists and
six rebounds in addition to his usual sturdy defense in that game.

So, don't cry for Prince because he's left out of the All-Star discussion again
. He will gladly take a four-day vacation in February in exchange for extra
work in May and June.

"Hey, if I can play here the rest of my career and do the same things and have
the opportunity to go to the playoffs and win a championship every year, then
I'll darn sure do that," he said.
