Nazr Mohammed and Flip Murray -- newcomers to the Pistons roster -- aren't the
only ones going through a transition period.
回教人和魔銳是活塞陣容中的新成員，但他們並非球隊在這段變動頻繁的時期裡面的

Dave Cowens and Terry Porter joined Flip Saunders' coaching staff when Sidney
Lowe and Don Zierden left after one season. Each underwent a crash course on
how the Pistons operate, from absorbing the playbook to learning players'
habits.
D.Cowens和T.Porter在S.Lowe和D.Zierden待了一年離開後便加入了以老桑為首的教練

Cowens was a Hall of Fame player with the Boston Celtics and spent eight years
as a head coach, including six in the NBA. Most recently, he was the general
manager and head coach of the WNBA expansion Chicago Sky. Porter was the head
coach of the Milwaukee Bucks in 2003-05, following a 17-year playing career
that included a stop in Minnesota, where Saunders was his coach.

"They're old-school guys, no question about it," Pistons reserve Dale Davis
said. "Both were great players, and they can relate. Anytime you have a guy who
has had a great career and has been in the league for that number of years, I
think it's easier for them to teach from experience."

During practice, Cowens works with the big men, Porter with the guards. On the
bench, Cowens and Porter discuss substitution patterns and what plays the team
may run and when would be a good time, for instance, to switch to a zone.

Cowens和Porter則是一起討論球隊該採用什麼樣的替補陣容，球隊該使用什麼樣的戰術，

They make a good team, but their styles are different. While Cowens is more
mild-mannered, Porter often jumps up to holler at a player or give Saunders
advice.

"Flip was looking for that, wanted that and likes that in Terry," Pistons vice
president of basketball operations John Hammond said. "And with Dave, you have
a little more quiet, subdued personality. Not that his importance is any less,
because I know that it's not. But I think he kind of brings that, and Dave
wouldn't probably appreciate this backhanded compliment, but a lot of staffs
have what you call a graybeard. The graybeard is the older coach with years of
experience, and Dave brings that."

Saunders and the two ex-head coaches don't step on each other's toes.

Cowens said Saunders "doesn't mind if you step in. He doesn't say, 'Oh, he
can't talk, he can't talk. I'm the only one they want to hear.' He's real easy
in that way. I think Terry and I and Harp (assistant Ron Harper), in the
experiences we've had, we see something, we'll pick a time, we'll step in and
say something and get back out. We just sort of follow his lead."
Cowens說老桑"並不介意你發表意見。他不會說，'噢，你不准說話，他也不准說。他
們只想聽我的話。'他在這方面相當容易相處。我認為Porter、我還有另外一位助理教練R.
Harper，我們的經驗都是，我們看到一些事情，我們會選擇一個適當的時機介入並發表一

Porter said he would like to return to head coaching. Cowens, perhaps not.
Porter說他會希望未來能再回到總教練的位置上，而Cowens或許不會。
"I'm happy with what I'm doing right now," he said.
