截至目前為止，統計至少有七人死亡。
美國總統隨即發表了一個很好笑的聲明，原文部分為:
If,as it now appears this was an act of terrorism,
it was a despicable and cowardly act. We will find out
who was responsible and hold them accountable. If
their intention was to deter us from our mission
of promoting peace and security in the middle East,
they will fail utterly.
這段所以好笑，是因為美國總統既然說要 promote peace and security
那還派軍艦到波斯灣這個大火藥箱來幹嘛？難道派軍艦到有衝突的地方可以
提升和平嗎？
在這一篇文告的後半段，柯林頓還說希望不要以血止血，
不過，從柯林頓聲稱要 find out who was responsible and hold
them accountable 來看，以血止血是免不了的。
