15. Adrian Gonzalez, 1b, Peoria Saguaros (Rangers)
The Marlins elected to deal Gonzalez and keep first baseman Jason Stokes this
summer. The two ended up playing together again in the AFL. Stokes struggled
to make consistent contact, as he did throughout much of the regular season for
Class A Jupiter, while the more-advanced Gonzalez was productive and selective
(17 walks, nine strikeouts).
Scouts love Gonzalez' stroke and would like to see him improve his body; he's
a well-below-average runner. Defensively, he and James Loney were the best at
first in the league.
"He has good hands; his feet work well around the bag for a big guy. He is good
on the backhand and very accurate throwing across the diamond," the NL scout
said. "He does all those things well."
