Jeremy Hellickson, RHP
2010 Rank: 20 Drafted: 2005, 4th (118) ETA in Majors: 2011
Statistically speaking:
Don't expect the right-hander to hurt himself with walks. His 2.8 BB/9 ratio
in 2010 was actually a career worst for the 2005 fourth-round pick.
Over the course of his Minor League career, Hellickson has allowed just 2.1
walks per nine innings. At the same time, he's struck out 9.8 per nine,
with a full-season high of 10.4 in 2009.
Scouting report:
He's got stuff plus command, which bodes well for his future.
He can touch the mid-90s with his fastball, which he keeps down in the zone,
and his changeup is a plus pitch to go along with it. He can throw his curve
for strikes and has even added a cutter to his arsenal. He's fearless on
the mound and goes right after hitters.
Upside potential:
The trade of Matt Garza creates an opening in the Rays' rotation for
Hellickson right out of the gates. He might start in the back end of
the rotation, but he could be a splendid No. 2 behind David Price
before long.
They said it: "He knows how to pitch, that's for sure. He's got really good
command of his pitches. He knows where each one of them is going. That's one
of the main differences between the Minor Leagues and the Major Leagues."."
-- Rays starter James Shields
He said it: "I think I was more nervous warming up [before the game],"
Hellickson said. "Once I walked out there and saw the fans, and they started
cheering ... I tried to take it like any other game after that first pitch. I
just went after that first-pitch strike." -- on his Major League debut

Desmond Jennings, OF
2010 Rank: 6 Drafted: 2006, 10th (289) ETA in Majors: 2011
Statistically speaking:
In 2010, Jennings went 37-for-41 in stolen-base attempts (90.2 percent).
That shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone. The speedy outfielder has
been successful 83.8 percent of the time over the course of his Minor League
career, with 171 steals and just 33 caught.
Scouting report:
While his plus speed is clearly his best tool, he's got a lot more going
for him. He's a very good baserunner, as evidenced by his success rate,
which helps him maximize his speed. That speed works very well defensively,
where he's a plus defensive center fielder. Jennings has a good approach at
the plate and understands his role as a leadoff-type catalyst. He may never
hit a ton of homers, but he's got extra-base pop.
Upside potential:
An outstanding leadoff hitter who gets on base, steals a ton of bags and
plays a Gold Glove-caliber center field one day, even if he starts off as
the Rays' left fielder in 2011.
They said it: "It's primarily those two things -- defense and speed. And if
you look at how we've been built all year, defense is a high priority for us.
And you know how we move things along as the game's in progress, whether it's
to pinch-run and possibly stay in the game, we like all of that." -- Rays
manager Joe Maddon on why Jennings was added to the ALDS roster
He said it: "It's always fun playing in a big league stadium, playing in
front of a lot of people. All the talent that is going to be there, you're
probably going to play with some real good players." -- on being named to his
second All-Star Futures Game

Matt Moore, LHP
2010 Rank: NR Drafted: 2007, 8th (245) ETA in Majors: 2012
Statistically speaking:
With 208 K's in 2010, Moore became the first pitcher since 2005 to top
the 200-strikeout plateau. He also led the Minor Leagues in strikeouts
for the second consecutive season, with a 12.9 K/9 rate over those two
years combined. It's been at least 20 years (researching back to 1990)
since anyone has pulled that double feat.
Scouting report:
The fastball is obviously a plus, up to the mid-90s, with excellent movement.
Both his curve and changeup have the chance to be above-average to plus
pitches, though the changeup is a bit behind the others because he hasn't
used it much. His command improved over the course of the season,
but there's still room for improvement.
Upside potential:
With three potentially plus pitches, Moore has frontline starter potential.
They said it: "He has good stuff -- a plus fastball, a plus curveball, and he
has a deception in his delivery. That's where he gets these strikeouts." --
Rays farm director Mitch Lukevics
He said it: "I think I'm progressing with every level I'm at. I think I've
been where I've needed to be the last two or three years, and hopefully I can
progress in that same way until there's nowhere to go but the big leagues."

Chris Archer, RHP
2010 Rank: NR Drafted: 2006, 5th (161) ETA in Majors: 2012
Statistically speaking:
Archer hit double-digits in strikeouts twice during the regular season,
but it was his 10-strikeout performance after the season that really stood
out.
Facing Cuba in the Pan Am Qualifying Tournament, Archer struck out 10 and
walked none while allowing just two hits over six scoreless innings.
He also didn't walk anyone in his two 10-strikeout starts while with
Daytona in the Florida State League.
Scouting report:
The key to the Matt Garza deal, Archer has above-average to plus stuff
nearly across the board. His fastball is a plus and it can reach the upper
90s. His fastball command was outstanding in 2010. He throws a plus slider.
His changeup is behind those two, but it's improved markedly. His makeup is
off the charts. The fastball-slider combination alone could get him to the
big leagues quickly as a reliever, but with his improved command and rapidly
developing changeup, he's got a future as a starter.
Upside potential: A solid No. 2 or outstanding No. 3 starter.
They said it: "Simply said, we really like the deal a lot -- it kind of fits
in with our short-term and long-term objectives. "It's a perfect win-win
trade for both sides or we wouldn't have done it." -- Rays executive vice
president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman on the trade
He said it: "It's awesome, being a major piece in any trade is cool. For it
to be for a No. 1 starter, it makes you feel pretty good. I'm not saying I
feel secure by any means, because I have a lot of work to do, but you
definitely go in with your head held high. It's definitely not a bad thing."
