ST. PETERSBURG - The Devil Rays have reportedly released Shinji Mori. No official word about the move has been offered by the Rays, but according to a report in Friday's St. Petersburg Times, the move was made on Thursday. Mori, 32, was signed in January 2006 and reported to Spring Training with the promise of contending for the vacant closer's role. Shoulder problems led to a slow start, however, and his season ended when he tore the labrum in his right shoulder while pitching in a Minor League exhibition game on March 20. Mori did not have surgery, opting for rehabilitation, in the hopes that such an option would allow him to pitch this season. While Mori has been throwing, Rays manager Joe Maddon said at the Winter Meetings that Mori's velocity had not improved enough for the pitcher to be ready for Spring Training. The Seibu Lions received approximately $750,000 from the Rays for the right to sign Mori. A five-time All-Star with the Lions, Mori joined the Rays last January after signing a two-year, $1.4 million contract. In releasing Mori, the Rays will pay $200,000 to buyout an option for the 2008 and 2009 seasons. Mori's release leaves a vacancy on the Rays' 40-man roster. 囧 速度回不來了 回日本不知道還有沒有球打>< -- ※ 發信站: 批踢踢實業坊(ptt.cc) ◆ From: 125.230.20.230
