Iker Casillas 6.0
Fortunate early on not to concede a goal when his clearance hit Oliech.
Also misjudged the ball when Pepe's header hit his own post. Not at his
absolute best this evening.

Arbeloa 6.5
Defensively sound as always from the full-back who did well to support the
attacks going forward but could have shown more quality with his delivery
into the box.

Sergio Ramos 6.5
Moved inside to central defence due to Carvalho's absence, he showed a
worrying complacency at times but got away with it and ensured neither
frontman proved to be particularly dangerous.

Marcelo 7.5
Excellent going forward and while he held his position well in defence as
well as being decisive in the challenge, his occasional runs inside confused
Hengbert and created opportunities in attack for Madrid.

Pepe 6.0
At times he looked a little worried by the pace of Oliech and Jelen and he
almost headed past Casillas. He was mightily relieved when the ball struck
the post.

Lassana Diarra 6.5
Caused problems when he burst forward with his power and persistence but
needed to show the composure he did on the ball when in front of goal.

Xabi Alonso 7.0
Played well as Auxerre struggled to get to grips with his deep position.
His distribution was as masterful as ever as he spread the play in an effort
to stretch AJA's robust and resolute rearguard.

Sami Khedira 7.0
Looked confused in the first half as to his role but improved in the second,
providing better midfield support. He got forward, linked up with his
team-mates and carried the ball well, showing why Madrid shelled out good
money to bring him to the Bernabeu.

Cristiano Ronaldo 5.5 Flop of the Match
Petulant,unproductive and too greedy, he was a chief contributor in Madrid's
inability to score before Di Maria won the game. His shooting was as off key
as your uncle singing at the Christmas karaoke. On this form, he is keeping
his spot on name alone.

Karim Benzema 5.0
Where was the dynamism and the power from the Benz? He was flat, lacking in
confidence and his major contribution was to run offside. No wonder Mourinho
wants a new number nine.

Gonzalo Gerardo Higuaín5.0
If Ronaldo needs to do more, undoubtedly so
must Higuain who returned to the land of his birth. Should have scored from
Di Maria's ball across goal and utterly failed to give a performance worthy
of a Real Madrid striker.


‧ Substitutions

Mesut Özil5.0
Had trouble adjusting to the pace of the game and its physical nature.
Needs to start in the side so he can impose himself on proceedings.

Came on late to shore things up for the closing minutes.

Ángel Fabián Di María8.0
Supersub Di Maria. He added a lively zest to the Real Madrid team they had
been crying out for. Took his goal superbly with a fine left-foot shot past
Sorin. Also excelled in general play creating problems for Hengbert.
