Iker Casillas 6.0

Pushed one Rossi effort behind for a corner and easily claimed a shot from
Cani in the first half. Untroubled by a long-range effort from the latter in
the closing stages of what was a very quiet evening for the Madrid captain.

Marcelo 7.0

Bags of energy on the left in another impressive game as he offered a great
outlet on the counter with his pace and skill. Twisted and turned in the box
midway through the first half to get away from two defenders and set up
Benzema, who fired just wide.

Sergio Ramos 7.0

Back in the centre of defence as Carvalho missed out again and it's starting
to look like his best position. Cut out a dangerous Rossi cross after 28
minutes and saw a header correctly ruled out for offside in the opening
exchanges.

Pepe 6.5

Kept possession well and was largely untroubled at the back as Villarreal's
strikers had little of the ball. Excellent positional play and a very
comfortable evening for the Portugal defender.

Álvaro Arbeloa Coca 6.0

Made one good intervention to cut out Musacchio's forward pass and was solid
in the right-back position, but chose to shoot instead of setting up
Cristiano Ronaldo for what could well have been a fourth goal 15 minutes from
time.

Cristiano Ronaldo 5.5

Needed two goals to reach 100 for Real Madrid but never came close to them.
Saw one early effort pushed wide by Diego Lopez for a corner, then made the
wrong decision later on as he chose to send the ball out wide to the left on
a quick break instead of finding better-placed team-mates on the right. Quiet
by his standards.

Xabi Alonso 6.0

Neat and tidy from Madrid's midfield master. Won back possession on several
occasions and used possession wisely. Wasteful with one free-kick which went
straight to Diego Lopez but otherwise dependable until he was replaced by
Coentrao with 10 minutes left.

Kaká 7.5

Scored the second after 10 minutes with a lovely left-footed drive from just
outside the box which nestled into the corner and gave Diego Lopez no chance.
Showed some wonderful touches and was involved in much of Madrid's best play
as the locals ran riot on the break.

Sami Khedira 7.0

Little by little the German is winning his place in this side. With Coentrao
on the bench and Sahin yet to make his debut, Khedira is making the position
his own with a series of solid performances. Kept it simple in the centre of
the park, but made some good interventions and was always available for a
pass.

Ángel Fabián Di MaríaTop of the Match 8.5

Fantastic as he set up Benzema for the opener, assisted Kaka for the second
and scored the third with an excellent finish to complete a flowing team
move. Earned his ovation as he was replaced by Ozil with 21 minutes left.

Karim Benzema 8.0

Almost set up Di Maria after three minutes, before scoring a minute later
with a lovely finish as he clipped the ball over Diego Lopez and shot just
wide after he was teed up by Marcelo later on. Also supplied a wonderful
assist to Di Maria following a sensational counterattack.

‧ Substitutions
Gonzalo Higuaín 5.5

Set up Arbeloa with a lovely pass after replacing Benzema but didn't offer
too much else in his 15-minute cameo.

Mesut Özil 5.5

Some neat touches in his 20 minutes on the pitch but Madrid were in cruise
control by then.

Fabio Coentrao 5.0

Came on for the last 10 minutes but had little impact
