New sub quests: Yep, we'll have more sub-quests, primarily in the new
areas we're introducing.
Starting point: You'll start in the northernmost Ten Town of Lonelywood.
The new areas aren't part of the original Icewind Dale's
critical path, and could essentially be played at any
time (but is not recommended until the "higher-ish" levels),
meaning during or even after IWD.
New stories and items: Actually both. A cool new storyline, as well as
tons of new items and NPC's, mostly in the
expansion areas.
It is a little different than ToSC though, where you can play it during,
or even after, you beat the original game. The storyline is new and does
not directly relate to the original game's critical path.
Mirror Image spell: We would definitely be interested in making Mirror
Image more balanced. I'll ask Malavon about that.
Paper dolls: There are new paper dolls for female gnomes and dwarves,
courtesy of Dave Pursley. They look really cool.
Dwarves and 2 handed axe animation: There are some very interesting dwarf
NPCs, but this is still during the worst
period of the dwarven decline. Dwarves
are scarce, and often when found, are
dour and resigned.
I don't know about the 2-H axe animation. Sorry.
We would still require the original animation files, yes. The dwarves
don't start making a surge back into the Realms until the "current"
Forgotten Realms timeline. Perhaps if we make a game set in the current
FR timeline, we'll have dwarves hopping around all over the place.
Key rings: I asked Darren about the possibility of having key rings in
the game (basically, like BG2 gem bags, but holding keys and
other quest items). We can't do it because the engine can't
see those items as "on" the character. So, if you walked up
to Larrel and said, "Hey, here's the Heartstone Gem," the game
would think you didn't have it, since it's in your "key ring."
Sorry.
Mirror Image spell: Mirror Image is now the same as it is in BG2, and I
agree the change was definitely needed. In case anyone
didn't know, surprise, surprise, the probabilities are
like this -
1 image = 50% chance to hit the caster
2 images = 33% chance to hit the caster
3 images = 25% chance to hit the caster
4 images = 20% chance to hit the caster
etc.
