The Elven Kingdom of Eaerlaan has come into its own but is sorely
pressed by Orc incursions from the north.
The old Human Kingdom of Netheril, to the east across the Graypeak Mountains
passes away under the onslaught of the Great Desert. Humans carry their
knowledge and powers across the mountains into Eaerlaan.
The Second Era (250-300 years ago)
As the kingdom of Eaerlaan grew, the foundations of a great fortress city
were laid upon a jutting crag known as Ascal's Horn. This city became
Ascalhorn; it was set in rock at the head-valley of the river Delimbiyr.
The fortress commanded Turnstone Pass to the northwest and defended
the northern border from Orc invasions. To accommodate the influx of Humans
from the east, the city was expanded.
The Third Era (150-250 years ago)
Orc incursions decreased meeting a fierce, well-armed Human army backed by
Elven mages and contingents of Elven archers.
The Elves, forever preferring the surroundings of nature turned over more and
more care of Ascalhorn to the humans. Eventually the elves retreated from
Ascalhorn altogether, leaving the Humans to keep watch over the Orcs. Many of
the elves wandered to Adbar, Sundabar, and Silverymoon, while many more
relocated to Myth Drannor(編按:似乎是光芒之池2要來的地方唷). Many of those
elves that remembered the glory of Eaerlaan were lost when Myth Drannor was
assaulted and destroyed.
The Fourth Era (70-150 years ago)
A time known as the trade years… almost 100 years of peace where the Humans
of Ascalhorn extended their influence. Guard keeps were built and trade
routes extended.
Ascalhorn was a waypoint in wild lands, connecting such southern cities as
Waterdeep with the cities of Adbar, Sundabar, and Silverymoon. Trade up the
River Shining was deemed much safer than the circuitous route around the
Trollmoors. On the journey, boats would put in at the small docks of Loudwater
, and then they would carry their goods towards the Shining Falls and a small
outpost there. From the outpost above the Shining Falls the journey
continued to Ascalhorn. The most treacherous section was always the Turnstone
Pass, however, in the trade years, even this area was safe for large caravans.
The Fifth Era (70 years ago)
Llorkh reaches its hey-day with large amounts of precious metals being
extracted daily.
On the moor about the Shining Falls a Human captain of the Shining Falls Keep
and his Dwarven friend Tuldor first present the idea of a canal system capable
of moving barges between the upper and lower River Shining. Llorkh, enjoying
recent wealth and wanting to speed up cargo transit, offers to assist.
Settlement around the Shining Falls Keep grows and an outer wall is also begun.
The Sixth Era (50 years ago)
Nanathlor Greysword and a small band of warriors make their first journey
south past Ascalhorn.
Glenden's Moor, as it is now referred to somewhat disparagingly by the
soldiers, continues to grow. A canal is dug around the Shining Falls and the
Dwarves begin work on a system of Locks to move barges from the Upper Shining
to the Lower Shining. Construction is begun on the canal system but is slowed
by the porous cave like tunnels beneath the city.
The descendants of the Wizards of the fallen Kingdom of Netheril come to rule
Ascalhorn and more and more of the fortresses focus is turned towards the
desert lands. The wizards began forays into the lands of their old kingdom to
the detriment of trade.
Wulgreth opens a gate to the Nine Hells and Ascalhorn is infiltrated.
Nanathlor Greysword and a small band of warriors settle in the community of
Loudwater. The Humans, Half-elves and Dwarves of the area welcome the Cavalier
as bandits and predators have always been a problem. The problems have been
increasing, as Ascalhorn has grown inattentive. As the shadow grows upon
Ascalhorn, more and more Humans relocate to Glenden's Moor. Thoughtful Elves
counsel Glenden to gather forces to him as best he may. Some of the richer
nobles of Ascalhorn petition Glenden for property within the walls of his town.
The construction at Glenden's Moor and the wealth of Llorkh succeed in drawing
many dwarves to the area. New mines near Glenden's Moor, originally quarrying
stone, reveal rich veins of ore.
New tribes of Orcs pour from the Ice Mountains and launch a campaign against
Adbar and Sundabar.
As rumors of the work of devils in Ascalhorn spread a mysterious group of Druids
appear at Glenden's Moor. The druids speak of a shift in balance and encourage
the many bands of dwarves in the area to aid in the work at Glenden's Moor. A
strong contingent of about 100 elves arrives, from the old Kingdom of Eaerlaan.
These elves, led by a fighter/mage named Lendel, are gathering a group together
to go to Ascalhorn. Trade above the river has ground to a virtual standstill.
The canal system is abandoned as resources are diverted elsewhere.
After pausing to gather forces, Lendel continues northward for Ascalhorn. Too
late the forces embark, as halfway on their journey they are met by a flood
of refugees from Ascalhorn. The refugees speak of devils and undead and the
sudden storming of the city by demons. Lendel gathers more force and continues
north.
Year 35
Lendel and his army of less than 1000 all told arrive beneath the shadows of
Ascalhorn to find the fortress city burning. Shan Nikkoleth the Death Knight
, and his minions bar the gate. Lendel is told that The great Lord Grintharke
(Type VI demon) now rules the ancient Kingdom of Eaerlaan and that all
within his dominion shall pay homage.
Realizing that storming the gates would be foolhardy, Lendel has half his army
gather refugees to head for Glenden's Moor while the remainder set watch to
learn what they can.
The Druids of the Tall Trees, present in Glenden's Moor, orchestrate a meeting
between the leaders of elves, half-elves, halflings, dwarves, and humans. Mages
from Ascalhorn are also present and the fall of Ascalhorn is told. Realizing
the gravity of the danger presented by this 'gate to hell', the forces present
agree to ally. Messengers are sent to outlying lands and the cities of the
south for aid. The fortification of Glenden's Moor begins.
Year 34
Keeping vigilant watch, Lendel sends word south of activity in Ascalhorn.
Small contingents of aid arrive from Silverymoon, Sundabar, and Adbar in the
north; however, those settlements are too sorely pressed by orcs to send
armies. Lendel finds himself in command of about 1500. 300 well equipped
dwarves, 250 half-elves and elves, about 50 halflings, and 900 well equipped
humans. This group forages for food amongst the now deserted farms and
occasionally tries to infiltrate the city covertly. Some mages of Ascalhorn
escape imprisonment and report that the demon and cambion minions are searching
for items of power in the city while reinforcements continue to cross over
from the nether realms.
In Glenden's Moor, now referred to as Glendenmoor, counsel is taken and a
decision is made to force the evil from Ascalhorn. Nanathlor Greysword has
sent word that human reinforcements will arrive from the south and that he
will lead them north. It is agreed between the humans, dwarves and elves that
Glendenmoor shall become a fortress-town shared by all three as a bastion
against the evil. The halflings of the area agree to participate but prefer
their own village to living within the walls of stone.
All races work hard arming themselves and fortifying their town.
At the end of the 34th year, demon spawn belch forth from the gates of
Ascalhorn. A fateful message arrives in Glendenmoor from Lendel's watch party
that "Hell's Gate has let loose its fury". Ascalhorn is thereafter known only
as Hellsgate. The demons spread from Hellsgate south, ignoring the Turnstone
Pass in favour of the still vulnerable Glendenmoor. Lendel fights a running
battle south along the River Shining, trying to buy time for the forces at
Glendenmoor to assemble.
Where the mountains draw close to the High Forest, by some old ruins, Lendel
makes his stand. Knowing that his army could never cross the River Shining to
reach Glendenmoor without being slaughtered in the river, the forces turn at
bay. At first the folk of Glendenmoor think a storm approaches in the night.
Then they realize that they see the last magic of dying mages on the horizon.
Almost all of Lendel's force is lost - but the demons pay a heavy price.
The demons continue ravaging southward, briefly held up while they cross the
River Shining. Then with howling fury they come upon Glendenmoor. In one of
most memorable battles of Glenden's Moor, the brave knights and warriors held
back the fury of the demons until reinforcements could arrive. The battle
raged for thirty-one hours before the forces from Loudwater and Llorkh arrived
. Many noble men met their death that day including Lord Kalbender. The demons
are turned back and the allies give chase.
Pushed back to the Ruins where Lendel's garrison fell, the demons turn at bay
and stop the allies advance. The allies have force-marched to save Glendenmoor
and are ill prepared to carry the battle further. Both sides fall back to
regroup.
Year 33
The "Lord's Men" of Llorkh return to their homes.
Nanathlor Greysword, Lendel (who escaped into the High Forest with a small
contingent and was saved there by Druids), and a couple of other hero's,
gather a large force, mostly dwarven and human, and March on Hellsgate. The
troops are soundly routed after trying to rescue a group of human slaves
being slaughtered before them at Hellsgate. They return to Glendenmoor to
lick their wounds.
Year 32-29
Greysword returns to Loudwater and the dwarves return to building and arming.
A standing force is created as a border patrol to keep watch on Hellsgate.
Each year a council argues about another attack and each year it is delayed.
Year 28
Realizing that the powers in Hellsgate are guiding orc actions in the Ice
Mountains, and wanting to cleanse old Ascalhorn of its evil, A joint army
from Silverymoon, Sundabar, and Adbar comes south through the Turnstone pass.
Having received word, Glendenmoor once more sends a force north to meet them.
Again Hellsgate is stormed and again the allied forces are repulsed.
Year 27-15
Glendenmoor returns to trade.
Settlements and farms are firmly established.
The Glendenmoor Militia (mostly veterans of the Hellsgate campaigns) becomes
reknown for its fighting prowess. Between the militia and the power of
Glendenmoor's mages - Hellsgate is kept at bay.
Year 14-0
Toward the time of wars, and the fall of Ascalhorn, many evil forces have
pushed south hoarding everything in their path. The three races did not really
like being with each other, but the safety gained from their mutual agreement
was worth the pain. The races constantly have their internal feuds of
rulership and counsel but there has never been a public revolt by any of the
three.
At the time of the fall of Ascalhorn, Glendenmoor had some interesting guests
arrive. Scholars and Sages began to set up large libraries to conduct research
on the newly formed "Hellgate Keep". They watched as many forced attacks on
Hellgate failed miserably and knew that there must be a better way to mount
an attack to rid the realms of this abomination of nature. Over the years, the
scholars and sages worked their way into the city counsel, not as members of
course, but as "House Sages" to each of the high noble houses of
Glendenmoor. The sages continue their work for saving Hellgate even now. They
insist that Glendenmoor is the best place to study Hellgate and its actions.
A little less than 14 years ago, the current town Lord fell mysteriously ill
and died. Since then, his wife, the Lady of the Keep has ruled over Glendenmoor
and the High Counsel. The Dwarves and Elves are in a current uproar because
there is no blood heir to rule the Keep, and with that, the rulership to pass
to another as described in the Glendenmoor Charter. In actuality there was a
child born of the Lady not long after the Lord's death but without a way to
prove his lineage, the child was not named heir and was forced to be given up
for adoption by the Lady. The night before the child was supposed to leave, he
disappeared from the nursery. There was an investigation by the sages and all
movement for succession of ruler ship was been halted. Now 14 years later, the
succession talks have begun once more. The Dwarves and the Elves are both ready
to challenge for the rulership of Glendenmoor.
