Round 2, Jamie Callahan, RHP, Dillon (S.C.) HS: Callahan, 17, was the
Gatorade High School Player of the Year in South Carolina as a senior. He had
113 strikeouts in 50 innings and was 7-1 with a 0.89 ERA. Callahan's fastball
can reach 95 mph, but his best pitch is his curveball. He's committedto the
University of South Carolina.
Round 3, Austin Maddox, RHP, University of Florida: Maddox was a two-way
standout with the Gators, but his future is as a reliever. Currently playing
in the NCAA tournament with Florida, the closer has 12 saves with a 2.24 ERA
and 55 strikeouts in 52 1/3 innings. Maddox has an above-average fastball,
but he will need to polish his changeup.
Round 4, Ty Buttrey, RHP, Providence (N.C.) Senior HS: Buttrey impressed
scouts with his fastball, which was up to the mid-90s for most of the season.
He's effective when throwing inside and improved his breaking ball as a
senior. Buttrey, 19, is listed at 6-foot-5 and 205 pounds and is committed to
the University of Arkansas.
Round 5, Mike Augliera, RHP, Binghamton University: Augliera is arguably
the best pitcher to come out of Binghamton. He's the program's all-time
leader in wins (23), complete games (13), innings (298 1/3) and starts (50).
As a senior, he went 6-7 with a 3.16 ERA and struck out 83 against just seven
walks, the second best ratio in the NCAA.
Round 6, Justin Haley, RHP, Fresno State: The power pitcher has a fastball
that tops out at 95 mph and is an imposing presence on the mound at 6-foot-5
and 235 pounds. Haley went 7-4 as a junior, striking out 94 in 93 1/3
innings. He was drafted by Cleveland in the 46th round of the 2010 Draft but
did not sign.
Round 7, Kyle Kraus, RHP, University of Portland: Kraus was the Pilot's
No. 1 starter since he was a freshman and is the program's all-time leader in
wins (27), starts (56) and innings (406). As a senior, he went 7-6 with a
2.03 ERA and three complete games in 16 starts.
Round 8, Nathan Minnich, 1B, Shepherd University: Minnich won the 2012
Tino Martinez Award as the most outstanding player in Division II. He is the
first Shepherd alum to be drafted. Minnich had a .487/.645/.980 line as a
senior with 21 home runs and 72 RBIs. He never missed a start in 172 games
during his career with the Rams.
Round 9, Michael Miller, SS, Cal Poly San Luis Obispo: The shortstop
posted a .354/.410/.488 line as a senior despite missing time at the
beginning of the season with a wrist injury. Miller played in the Alaska
Baseball League last summer, where he was named the Player of the Year. The
last shortstop drafted from Cal Poly was Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith.
Round 10, J.T. Watkins, C, United States Military Academy: Watkins has
been an everyday catcher for the Black Knights since he was a freshman. He
hit .316 as a senior with five homers and 31 RBIs. His father, Danny Watkins,
is an area scout for the Red Sox.
Round 11, Jamal Martin, CF, William T. Dwyer (Fla.) HS: Martin is a speedy
outfielder who hit .386 as a senior with 11 steals. He is considered a plus
defender with good bat speed who can drive the ball to all fields. Martin is
committed to Florida State.
Round 12, Mike Meyers, SS, Silverado (Nevada) HS: Meyers set a school
record for a single season with 59 runs this year. He is also the school's
all-time leader in doubles (50), triples (18), steals (31) and runs (192).
Meyers is committed to UNLV and hit .446 as a junior in 2011.
Round 13, Jeffrey Wendelken, RHP, Middle Georgia College: The right-hander
was nearly unhittable this season, posting a 7-0 record with a 0.20 ERA and
nine saves in 22 appearances. Wendelken struck out 54 in 46 innings with four
walks. He held opponents to a .169 batting average this year.
Round 14, Dylan Chavez, LHP, Ole Miss: The reliever was 3-4 with a 4.66
ERA in 23 appearances, including one start this season. He struck out 36 in
36 2/3 innings and had one save. Chavez was drafted by the Twins in the 32nd
round of the 2011 Draft, but he did not sign.
Round 15, Carson Fulmer, RHP, All Saints Academy (Fla.): Fulmer has a plus
fastball that can reach 96 mph and a slider with good bite. He's an
aggressive pitcher with impressive arm strength, but he will need to develop
a consistent changeup.

11TH ROUND: JAMAL MARTIN, CF, WILLIAM DWYER HS (FLA.), 19 YEARS OLD

Martin is considered one of the fastest players in Florida, and was widely
recognized as one of the best players in Palm Beach County. He has a small
(listed anywhere from 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10), powerful build, and quit
football for his senior season to focus full-time on baseball. In addition to
his speed, he also showed the ability to drive a ball with a wooden bat in a
summer league prior to his senior season. He has a scholarship commitment to
Florida State.
12TH ROUND: MIKE MEYERS, SS, SILVERADO HS (NEV.), 18 YEARS OLD
Meyers, a 6-foot-1 shortstop, was an all-state player in Nevada while hitting
.454 with seven homers and 13 steals, and he set school single-season records
in runs scored (59). He has a scholarship commitment to UNLV.
13TH ROUND: J.B. WENDELKEN, RHP, MIDDLE GEORGIA COLLEGE (JUCO), 19 YEARS OLD
In 2006, the Red Sox had arguably their best pure scouting pick of the last
decade when they selected outfielder Josh Reddick — a South Effingham High
School product by way of Middle Georgia Junior College — in the 16th round
of the draft. And so, they can be forgiven for going back to the well.
On Tuesday, they selected a pitcher who, like Reddick, was coming out of
Middle Georgia by way of South Effingham, selecting J.B. Wendelken with their
13th round selection. Wendelken was dominant in 2012, going 7-0 with a 0.20
ERA while striking out 54 and walking eight in 46 innings. He features a
fastball that has been described in different reports as topping out at 92-95
mph.
14TH ROUND: DYLAN CHAVEZ, LHP, OLE MISS, 21 YEARS OLD
Chavez, who played his high school ball for Rob Rinaldi – who coached Dustin
Pedroia at Woodland High School — pounded the strike zone for Ole Miss after
transferring from American River Community College. In 16 games, the skinny,
6-foot-3 lefty went 3-4 with a 4.66 ERA while striking out 36 and walking six
in 36 2/3 innings. That strikeout-to-walk ratio represented a somewhat
stunning reversal from Chavez’s performance at American River, where he
struck out 46 and walked 38 in 63 innings. He features an 88-92 mph fastball
and a low-80s slider along with some funk in his delivery.
Chavez told the Clarion Ledger that he was unsure whether he would sign.
15TH ROUND: CARSON FULMER, RHP, ALL SAINTS ACADEMY (FLA.), 18 YEARS OLD

Fulmer has a big arm, touching the mid-90s with his fastball and also
featuring a slider for a two-pitch mix that represents, at a minimum, an
easily projectable bullpen arm. There’s nothing quiet about his delivery, as
he features a big leg kick and enough movement to knock his cap off his head
in the video below.
He dominated in high school, not just for All Saints (for whom he had a 10-1
record and 0.27 ERA along with 169 strikeouts), but also for Team USA’s
Under-18 team last summer, for whom he tossed four shutout innings. He
dropped due to signability given his scholarship commitment to Vanderbilt,
but Fulmer remained open-minded about the college vs. Red Sox decision in

Red Sox to sign second-round pick Jamie Callahan
In a change from previous years, players are signing quickly after getting
drafted. The first Red Sox draft pick to sign was right-handed pitcher Jamie
Callahan. Callahan, who was drafted in the second-round, will be in Boston
tomorrow for a physical and will be ready to play for the GCL Red Sox next
week. The news of his signing was first reported by Lou Bezjak of scnow.com.
Callahan, who was committed to pitch for the two-time defending national
champion South Carolina Gamecocks, was recently named the Gatorade South
Carolina Baseball Player of the Year. The amount for which he signed was not
available, but the slot value for the pick is $565,600.

Red Sox sign fifth-rounder Mike Augliera
Tim Britton of the Providence Journal tweeted that the Red Sox have signed
fifth-round draft pick Mike Augliera. Details of the contract have not been
released, but expect it to be significantly below the slot amount of $218,100
that is allotted for the 181st pick. Augliera, a senior right-hander from
Binghamton University, will likely report to Lowell.

Red Sox to sign sixth-round pick Justin Haley
Fresno State right-hander Justin Haley, who the Red Sox drafted in the sixth
round, has agreed to sign for "around $163,000" according to CBS 47 in
Fresno, as reported by fresnobee.com. The slot value for the 211th pick is
$163,500.
Haley is the second draft pick to have signed, and expect more soon. Between
rounds 5 and 10, the Red Sox drafted five college seniors, with Haley, a
junior, being the lone exception.
