No glove needed for Ortiz, who changes games with his bat

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- It is a position where no glove is necessary. All that is
needed is a big bat, and nobody fills the role better than David Ortiz.

Designated hitter? In the case of Ortiz, try designated masher. Or designated
game changer. Those who wonder if a player can make a significant impact on
his team simply by hitting haven't been watching the Red Sox for the last
five years.

Since becoming Boston's full-time DH for good in late May 2003, Ortiz has
tormented opposing pitchers on a regular basis, particularly with the game on
the line.

Entering season No. 6 with the Red Sox, there are two constants with Ortiz:

Ortiz gained even more respect last year by playing hurt virtually all season
long. He never considered shutting it down in the summer of 2007. Instead,
Ortiz limped his way through with painful right knee woes and kept hitting.

Sure, the lack of drive in his legs knocked his power down a bit. After
belting 54 homers in 2006, Ortiz hit 35 in '07. But he was no less of a
factor.

The ultimate pressure player was once again at his best in the postseason.
During Boston's 14-game march to the World Series championship, Ortiz hit
.370 with 16 runs, six doubles, three homers and 10 RBIs to go with a .696
slugging percentage.

With the equally dangerous Manny Ramirez lurking behind Ortiz in the batting
order, there is simply no way a pitcher can hide. Angels manager Mike
Scioscia tried it in Game 2 of the American League Division Series, as Ortiz
walked four times. But Ramirez won that game with a walk-off homer in the
bottom of the ninth inning.

因為後面有著一樣大傢伙的米粉頭，所以他們在一起肛肛好，讓投手想躲都躲不調。

The only time you will see Ortiz on defense is when Boston plays Interleague
games in National League cities. In other words, don't expect Ortiz to have a
first baseman's glove on his hand until June 13, when the Sox open a
three-game series in Cincinnati against the Reds. Ortiz will also play some
first June 16-18 at Philadelphia, and again from June 27-29 in Houston.

你唯一可以看到老爹站上去防守的時候只有在跨聯盟比賽到別人家的時候了。換句話說，

After that, the Red Sox would like to see his glove just one more time -- at
the road venue in the World Series.

As for the Boston bench, it offers plenty of experience, including one
notable newcomer in left-handed-hitting first baseman Sean Casey. There's no
question that Casey will be going through a transition, as he's been an
everyday player just about all of his career.

side. Other than that, he will fill in at first base for Kevin Youkilis, and
also get starts on days Mike Lowell is off and Youkilis moves to third.

Red Sox. Though Crisp isn't likely to be thrilled at coming off the bench, he
would be a serious weapon for Francona. Not only could he steal bases at will
in the late innings, but Crisp would be the type of defensive stopper any
team would love to turn to with the game on the line.

there still seems to be a strong chance Crisp will be traded before Opening
Day. But if nothing can be worked out, the Red Sox probably have the best
backup outfielder in baseball.

If Crisp stays, the Red Sox would love to see him get back to the type of
hitter he was in Cleveland, where he consistently jumped on fastballs.

Should the Red Sox trade Crisp, Bobby Kielty would become the primary backup
outfielder. Kielty has some pop in his bat, particularly against left-handed
pitching. Kielty is likely to get the bulk of his starts in right field, with
Francona having the option of either resting J.D. Drew or moving him to
center on those days.

如果襪子們交易了Coco，那麼Kitty就變成了主要備胎供大家使用。Kitty是標準的左殺！

The infield has a familiar face in Alex Cora. The professional left-handed
hitter is a smart player who is adept at moving runners, putting down bunts
and finding little ways to beat the opposition. Cora is a solid defender at
second base and shortstop and can play third base in a pinch.

內野部分則是我們所熟悉的可樂。這一位專業的左打者是相當聰明的打者
不論是在跑壘移動，短打以及找出一絲絲對方所遺漏的空隙加以打擊等方面。
他在防守二壘或者游擊上也有不錯的表現，也可以緊急需要時防守三壘。

Once again, Doug Mirabelli will be the backup catcher. By now, everyone knows
that Mirabelli's top skill is handling Tim Wakefield's knuckleball. That is a
key element, in that it gives Wakefield all the confidence to pitch free and
easy and not worry about a collection of baseballs floating to the backstop.

又一次的，米拉爺又回來拉，他真的又回來拉！在全世界都知道米拉爺是老蝴蝶
的御用補手，專門接蝴蝶球，這也是他最主要的功能。這可以使老蝴蝶在投球時就
像穿了好自在蝶形護墊一般不怕測邊防漏，如此自在，不用擔心球會跑出去了！
