of life. Please discuss the possible biological, geological, and astronomical
reasons for this requirement.(30%)
2.How were extra-solar planets discovered? What was the additional evidence
that supports this breakthrough? Most central stars for these extra-solar
planetary systems are on the main sequence. What other kind of central stars
are there?(30%)
3.What are the assumptions based on which the crystallization age of
achondritic meteorites was determined to be 4.56 billion years using
long-lived radioactive nuclides such as Rb-87 or U-238? How do we know that
the age of the solar system can not be more then a few tens of million years
older than 4.56 billion years.(30%)
4.What are the evidences that an extra-terrestrial impact event cused the
K-T boundart extinction? Which types of catastrophe the impact might have
caused? What are their possible consequences on the environment?(30%)
