荷蘭有優良的出口死亡金屬到歐洲，像是Pestilence、 Gorefest、 Asphyx、Sinister，
Thanatos是荷蘭第一支殘暴極端樂團。首腦Stephan Gebédi在1990~1991年期間加入，首
張經典專輯＂Emerging from the Netherworlds＂在1991年發行，樂團為著新專輯巡迴演
出同時繼續為著下張作品寫歌。樂團回到德國錄音，雖然有好幾個星期沒有練團，但鼓手
Remo van Arnhem 只花了一天的時就搞定了鼓的錄音。
Pestilence合併了死亡金屬與鞭擊金屬的本質，低音的唱腔像惡魔吟唱，無法用文字所能
表達的，但非常適合他們整體的背景音樂。黑暗和沉重，吉他的調音非常的低沉，很符合
真正的歐洲老學校的死亡金屬風格，讓人想起Asphyx，很明顯受他們影響深遠。Asphyx與
Thanatos的差異在於，Thanatos增加了鞭金的元素，這聽起來挺有意思的。僅管有些歌曲
橋段聽起來很像，但他還是算九零年代死亡金屬的經典作品之一。
