忍不住也來貢獻一篇Dave在1984年Megadeth成立不久後接受電話訪談內容的翻譯
內容很機掰，充滿了Dave對Metallica的恨（汗）
不過還蠻有參考價值的
可以看到他們家前三張專輯有不少歌的雛形在那時就寫好了

Some lady: Hello?
【女人】哈囉？

Gene: Hello, is, uh... Dave there?
【Gene】哈囉，呃……Dave在嗎？

Some lady: Which Dave?
【女人】哪個Dave？

Gene: Um, Dave Mustaine?
【Gene】呃，Dave Mustaine。

Some lady: Yeah, hold on...

【DM】哈囉？

Gene: Hello, Dave?
【Gene】哈囉，Dave嗎？

DM: Yeah.
【DM】對。

Gene: It's Gene from MSE, what's up?
【Gene】我是MSE的Gene，最近好嗎？

DM: Oh, what's up, Gene?
【DM】噢，最近好嗎？Gene

Gene: Uh, how was the show?
【Gene】演出如何？

DM: It was great!
【DM】很棒！

Gene: Yeah?

DM: Fuck, it was great!!!

DM: I don't know. Why don't you wait and hear it through the grapevine.

Gene: Uh, yeah?

DM: I thought I did pretty good.

Gene: That's great. How's the band looking?

DM: Oh, it's heavy.

DM: Fuckin' real heavy.

Gene: Oh, that's great.

DM: We still gotta locate another guitar player; we have a few people in
mind.
【DM】我們還在找另一個吉他手，我們心裡有一些人選。

Gene: That's good... How was the crowd reaction?
【Gene】很不錯……觀眾反應如何？

DM: Oh, shit...
【DM】噢，該死……

Gene: Yeah?
【Gene】嗯？

DM: I don't know; I though, I got goosebumps kind of, ya know. After the
second song, they were chanting "Megadeth!" and then, uh, after the seventh
song, we went off for our encore, right?
【DM】我不知道，我想，我真的有點起雞皮疙瘩，你知道。在第二首歌之後，
他們喊著，「Megadeth！」然後，呃，七首歌結束後，我們下去準備安可，對吧？

Gene: Yeah?
【Gene】對？

DM: And I'm sitting offstage and I hear this "Kirk Hammett sucks! Kirk
Hammett sucks! Kirk Hammett sucks!" and they're chanting "Kirk Hammett
sucks," right?

Gene: Yeah?
【Gene】對？

DM: And I couldn't stand it, I fuckin' come running out on stage again, I
grab the mic and I say "yeah, I think he fuckin' sucks too!!!" [laughs]
 and it went down really well.
【DM】然後我受不了了，我再度衝上舞台，抓住麥克風，我說，「對，我也覺
得他他媽的爛透了！」（大笑）然後他們就安靜許多了。

Gene: Oh, that's great.
【Gene】噢，這很好。

DM: The first night wasn't too smooth because, you know, it was our first gig
and we had a couple of problems. But the second night was just like, I mean
it was so smooth. The first three bands really sucked shit.
【DM】第一天晚上不太順利，因為，你知道，這是我們第一次表演，我們遇到
了一些問題。不過第二天晚上就，我是說，真的很順利。前三團根本爛到爆。

Gene: Yeah?
【Gene】嗯？

DM: Real bad. It was Black Leopard, then a band called Reckless with a girl
singer that really reaked, and then a band called Trouble that was alright,
but the bass player knew he was up against Junior, so he was, you know,
really trying to act hot shit.
【DM】很糟糕。第一團是Black Leopard，然後是個叫Reckless的女主唱樂團，
實在很爛；然後是個叫Trouble的團，還不錯，不過貝斯手知道他會對上Junior，
所以他，你知道，真的很努力賣弄。

Gene: Yeah.
【Gene】對。

DM: And then, uh, some friends of ours from down here in LA were trying to
get to relocate to San Francisco too, uh, they opened up for us, and as far
as we're concerned, we're the only two ands on the whole bill. So they opened
up for us and they went down really well, and then we came out and it was
like all over.
【DM】然後是，一些我們在LA本地的朋友，他們也想到舊金山發展。呃，他們幫我
們暖場。就我們看來，我們是表演名單上唯一兩個像樣的團。所以他們幫我們暖場
，表演得真的很不錯，然後我們上台表演，整個完勝。

Gene: What did you think of Trouble?
【Gene】你覺得Trouble如何？

DM: Uhhh, they... I didn't really get a chance to hear them too well, but uh,
I didn't hear too much of them. I thought they were a bit slow, but of
course, coming from me, anything would be a bit slow, except for, perhaps,
Pump and GBH or something.
【DM】呃，他們……我不太有機會聽什麼他們的東西，但是，呃，我沒怎麼聽
他們的歌。我想他們的音樂有點慢，但當然，對我來說什麼歌都有點慢，除了，
大概Pump和GBH之類的吧。

Gene: Yeah. Did you, um, well... We're dying for you over here on the East
Coast. We need some fuckin' metal, none of this fuckin' "Kill'em All"
bullshit. Slow and all; that's what we... these songs are slow and all.
【Gene】嗯。你有沒有，呃，那個……我們東岸這裡都超想你的。我們需要一
些真正的金屬樂，不是他媽的《Kill'em All》上的垃圾，又慢又糟；我們都覺得……
這些歌又慢又糟。

DM: God, you gotta hear this shit; it's like Armageddon's here.
【DM】天啊，你一定要聽聽那垃圾，聽起來就像世界末日到了。

Gene: Yeah.
【Gene】對啊。

DM: You know, I came out and I've got like this, uh, bandelerro of machine
gun bullets, and I wore like three of those things, and I've got like hand
grenades hooked to them and all this shit, and uh, we came out, and first,
since it was our second gig, we were still kind of green with everything...
【DM】你知道，我上台，穿著這個，呃，機槍子彈腰帶，大概穿了三條吧，我
還掛了手榴彈在上面之類的。然後，呃，我們上台，但這只是我們第二次表演，
我們還有點嫩……

Gene: Yeah?
【Gene】是？

DM: And, um, I'm standing out there on the stage trying to check all my
wireing so that, you know, cause our road crew's still kind of green too,
since we just got together.
And we're using a massive equipment setup so we really had to go over
everything twice. But I'm standing out there and some idiot pulled the
curtain up and a bunch of people saw that I was out on stage, so everybody
starts yanking on the curtain. So the club pulled the curtain all the way
up so that it wouldn't get ripped off the poles, you know? And so we went
through the whole intro tape with the curtains open and I was standing
there, and people were just fuckin' freaking out. It went down pretty well
from what I heard.
【DM】呃，我站在台上，檢查樂器的線有沒有插好之類的，你知道的，我們的
工作人員也有點菜，畢竟團才剛組。而且我們的設備要做一大堆設定，所以什麼
都要弄個兩遍。我站在那裡，然後某個腦殘把布幕拉開，一堆人看到我站在台上，
每個人都對著布幕喊叫。所以Club乾脆把整個布幕都拉開，跑也跑不掉。所以
放開場音樂的時候，我就那樣站在台上，觀眾超興奮的。就我聽到的情況來講，
大家還蠻喜歡的。

Gene: That's great. Are you still... Is David Ellefson still your bass player
or is he gone?
【Gene】很棒。你還是……David Ellefson還是你的貝斯手嗎？還是他離開了？

DM: Yeah, he's still in here.
【DM】對，他還在團內。

Gene: That's what I figured, but I, um, someone I knew told me he wasn't in
the band any more and I said, you know, "that's not right."
【Gene】我也這樣想，但是我，呃，我認識的一個人告訴我，他不在團裡面了。
我說，你知道的，「你說錯了。」

DM: No way. Dave Ellefson and me are like, ya know, a hand and a glove. We
got a new drummer now named Lee Raush.
【DM】不可能，Dave Ellefson和我就好像，你知道的，如魚得水。我們找了新
鼓手，叫Lee Raush。

Gene: Oh yeah?
【Gene】嗯哼？

DM: And, uh, we got a guitarist named Kerry King from Slayer. We still really
want the guy in the band, although his dedication is really not too happening.
【DM】然後，呃，我們找了個吉他手叫Kerry King，從Slayer來的。我們還是
很希望這傢伙留在團內，不過要他真心留下似乎不太可能。

Gene: Oh?
【Gene】哦？

DM: Because he went along just for the ride, this time ya know? And he's into
the Slayer image, which I think is quite poseur, myself. You know, he tells me
how heavy I am and how I influenced him and everything, and you'd think
he'd want to play with us; we kill Slayer.
【DM】因為他這次只是來幫忙的，你知道嗎？他很投入Slayer的形象，但我個
人認為那還蠻Poser的。你知道，他告訴我有多heavy，我怎樣影響了他之類之
類的，你會以為他想跟我們一起；Slayer和我們根本沒得比。

Gene: Yeah, yeah. Oh, there's just so much going on. What are some of the new
songs you're doing?
【Gene】嗯，沒錯。噢，還有好多問題要問。你現在在做哪些新歌？

DM: Well, uh, to make it really quick... I gotta get back to work...
【DM】呃，快一點……我得回去工作……

Gene: Yeah, I don't want to...
【Gene】好，我不想要……

DM: To make it really quick, the song titles if you can catch them in a
rambling sort of setup... The first one's an instrumental, it's called
"Hook in Mouth" [talking to his boss] I'll make this real fast; he's
calling all the way from New York.
【DM】真的快點，歌單我記得的有點亂，可以的話你就記一下吧……第一首是
個樂器曲，叫〈Hook in Mouth〉。（和老闆說話）我會很快講完，他遠從紐約打
來耶。

Gene: I don't want to get you in trouble.
【Gene】我不想害你有麻煩。

DM: No, it's my boss; she's great, she'll let me talk for a minute or two.
【DM】不，那是我老闆，她人很好，她會讓我再說一兩分鐘。

Gene: Oh. What do you do, are you still doing phone surveys?
【Gene】噢，你現在在幹嘛？你還是在做電訪嗎？

DM: [talking to the boss again] It's from New York, OK? I swear to God I'll
stay after. OK. The first song is an instrumental, it's called "Hook in
Mouth." And then our second number is "Burnt Offerings", which a nuclear.
Um... The third song is "Chosen Ones," then the fourth one is "Skull Beneath
the Skin;" it's about our logo and our backdrop and, you know, everything
that we're going to use for the cover and shit. And our fourth song is
"Looking Down the Cross;" it's about Jesus getting hung up on the post.
And then, the fifth one is "Loved to Death"... wait, wait... did I already
do that one? "Chosen Ones," "Down the Cross," "Skull Beneath the Skin"...
The fifth one is "Looking Down the Cross," did I tell you that one?
【DM】（再次和老闆說話）是從紐約打來的，好嗎？我向上帝發誓我之後會留
下。好，第一首是個樂器曲，叫〈Hook in Mouth〉，然後我們第二首歌是〈Burnt
Offerings〉（按：即後來的〈Set The World Afire〉），是首關於核武的歌。呃……
第三首是〈Chosen Ones〉，第四首是〈Skull Beneath the Skin〉，是關於我們的團
徽和背景，還有，你知道，我們打算用來用在封面和其他有的沒的上的那些。第
四首是〈Looking Down the Cross〉，是關於耶穌被釘上十字架。第五首是〈Loved
to Death〉……等一下，等一下，我已經彈到這一首了嗎？〈Chosen Ones〉、〈Down
the Cross〉、〈Skull Beneath the Skin〉……第五首是〈Looking Down the Cross〉
，我說過了嗎？

Gene: Yeah.
【Gene】對。

DM: Sixth one is "Loved to Death;" its about killing my girlfriend... I
figured since she won't let me have her, I don't want nobody to have
her, so I killed her.
【DM】第六首是〈Loved to Death〉，講我殺了我女朋友……講說既然她不讓我
擁有她，那我也不能讓任何人擁有她，所以我把她殺了。

Gene: Oh, that's cool.
【Gene】噢，那很酷。

DM: And then our seventh song is the last song of the set, it's called "Next
Victim," it's about Russian roulette; splattering your blunt brains across
the wall, you know?
【DM】第七首也是最後一首，叫做〈Next Victim〉（按：即後來的〈My Last
Words〉），講俄羅斯輪盤的；一槍讓你那笨腦袋的腦漿全都濺到牆壁上，你知道
嗎？

Gene: Oh, that's great.
【Gene】噢，很棒。

DM: And then we go off... and that's how the live tape is going to turn out;
we went off and they started chanting the "Kirk Hammett sucks," and then, um,
we came back on and we did... uh... It's like a bass guitar instrumental thing
where I just haul ass and Dave just follows me, it's called "Quicksand". And
then we go strait into a song that's kind of about a demonic ritual called
"Bad Omen," and then we go into a song called "Devil's Island" that makes
Alcatraz up there in San Francisco look like a fucking sandbox. [laughs]
And then after that we go off for our second encore and then I come
back out and I diddle around a bit with the beginning of "Jump in the Fire"
and then go into "The Mechanix" off of the "No Life Til' Leather" demo,
exactly that way, none of this "Four Horsemen" wimp shit.
【DM】然後我們下台……接下來你在Live錄音上也會聽到；我們下台，然後觀
眾開始喊「Kirk Hammett爛透了」，然後，呃，我們回到台上，表演了……呃……
一首算是貝斯樂器曲的作品，我帶歌，Dave跟，叫做〈Quicksand〉（按：即後
來的〈Into The Lungs Of Hell〉）。然後我們接著彈一首講惡魔崇拜儀式的歌，叫
〈Bad Omen〉，接著是〈Devil's Island〉（按：歌詞以重刑監獄為主題），那讓舊
金山這裡的阿卡特茲島（按：又稱惡魔島，以嚴峻難逃而著名的舊監獄；〈Devil's
Island〉的歌詞靈感即來自此地。）看起來像小孩子玩的沙箱一樣。（大笑）然後
我們下台，再做第二次安可，我回到台上，先彈一小段〈Jump in the Fire〉的開
頭，然後彈《No Life Til' Leathe》版本的〈The Mechanix〉，就是那個版本，不是
〈Four Horsemen〉那種沒用的垃圾。

Gene: Yeah, yeah.
【Gene】嗯，嗯。

DM: And then we do our anthem to the headbangers called "Rattlehead"...
【DM】然後我們表演我們對金屬頭的頌歌，叫做〈Rattlehead〉……

Gene: Oh, that's great.
【Gene】噢，很棒。

DM: And that's it and then we're off to screw!
【DM】對，然後我們去和娘兒們上床。

Gene: OK, that's great, just two more questions. You ever keep in touch with
that guy Hugh Tanner?
【Gene】好，這真的很棒，再問兩個問題就好。你和那個叫Hugh Tanner的傢伙
還有在連絡嗎？

DM: Kind of.
【DM】算是。

Gene: Oh. Cause I remember he wrote some of the songs and he never got credit
for them.
【Gene】噢，因為我記得他也有寫一些歌，但作者欄上完全沒有他。

DM: Yeah, he wrote "Hit the Lights" and he wrote "Motorbreath."
【DM】對，他寫了〈Hit the Lights〉還有〈Motorbreath〉。

Gene: Right. And second thing is, I keep on hearing from Sheila; she keeps on
writing me letters that she's handling your club. And I know...
【Gene】好，第二件事是，我一直從Sheila那兒聽說；她一直寫信給我說她在
管理你的俱樂部。但我知道……

DM: She's not. Brian Louis's handling our fan club.
【DM】沒有，是Brian Louis在管我們的歌迷俱樂部。

Gene: Yeah, yeah. Well hey, listen Dave... Keep thrashing to Megadeth, huh?
【Gene】對，對。嘿，聽著，Dave……好好幹，嗯？

DM: Hey man, I swear as soon as we get something together, it'll be out there
because we want to get raged over there... because everybody in the Bay Area
is just bleeding Megadeth and everybody's totally freaking out. They're
telling us how we killed Metallica... I want to get it back there; I
personally want the live tape that says "Kirk Hammet sucks" to get back
there, and I want Lars and those guys to hear them chanting "Megadeth"
after the second song, you know? That'll kind of give them a slap in
the face. [laughs]
【DM】嘿，我發誓一等我們差不多，就會到那邊，因為我們要在那裡大紅大
紫……因為灣區的每個人都同情Megadeth，每個人都愛死它了。他們告訴我們，
Metallica是如何地無法跟我們相比……我要讓這一切在那邊重現；我個人想要喊

DM: We're going out there this summer.

DM: Yeah, we might be signing with Johnny Z.

DM: Maybe. It depends on what he has to offer us, cause he's fucked a lot of
bands.
【DM】可能，要看他給的條件怎樣，因為他對很多樂團都很爛。

Gene: Yeah. If you were going to tour with somebody, who would you want to
tour with?
【Gene】嗯，假如你要跟別人一起巡迴，你想跟誰巡迴？

DM: Who would we want to tour with? Fucking Mercyful Fate.
【DM】想跟誰一起巡迴？他媽的Mercyful Fate。

Gene: Yeah? Great. OK, listen Dave, I'm gonna keep in touch. You're still at
6022 Romaine, #8?
【Gene】哦？很讚。好，聽著，Dave，我會繼續跟你聯絡。你還是住6022 Romaine，
8號房對吧？

DM: Uh huh.
【DM】嗯哼。

Gene: OK, I'm going to write you a letter and shit.
【Gene】OK，我會寫信給你什麼的。

DM: Yeah, we'll send some more rage pages out to you, let you know how the
band's doing. 
【DM】好，我們會寄些傳單給你，讓你知道樂團做得怎麼樣。

Gene: Alright, thanks a lot, huh?
【Gene】好的，多謝。

DM: Alright, you take care, Gene.
【DM】好，你保重，Gene。

Gene: OK, keep thrashing.
【Gene】OK，加油。

DM: I will, man.
【DM】我會的。

Gene: Take care.

Jeff Hanneman: "I thought [Kerry] was an ass for doing that. [laughs] I
remember talking to Tom [Araya] about it, like, 'I guess we're gonna get a
new guitar player.' I thought he was kissing Dave's [Mustaine] ass or
something, and I thought it was kinda fucked up. I think he was gonna join.
Kerry will probably tell you something different, but why do that if you're
not thinking about joining? I'm a loyalist, you know, and I thought SLAYER
was the best thing going. Why go hang out with somebody else? If Dave
would've asked me to do it, I would've told him to fuck off."
Jeff：「我那時候想說Kerry居然跑到Megadeth，真他媽的混球（大笑）。我記得自己跟
Tom (Araya)談這件事，說：『我想我們得找個新的吉他手了。』我想他當時想討好Dave
(Mustaine)，但不是那麼順利吧。我還以為他會加入Megadeth咧！我猜Kerry的說法大概
會不一樣，不過要不是想跳槽你幹嘛跑過去啊？我這個人是很忠心的，而且我認為Slayer
就是最棒的效忠對象。幹嘛跑去跟別人混？假如Dave要我去他們團，我會直接叫他滾開。
」

Kerry King: "I did it because I admired Mustaine — I'd seen him play with
METALLICA. He'd be up there drunk off his ass, just ripping, not even looking
at his fingers. Me and Jeff didn't know how to do that yet. [laughs] When he
got kicked out and was sniffing around for a guitarist, I figured I'd do it
because I thought I would learn something. The other guys in SLAYER were
probably unhappy, but we weren't really known back then, and the way I looked
at it was that if people saw me playing in Dave's band, it'd be more
publicity for SLAYER. Now you look back and you think 'supergroup,' but back
then, absolutely not. I played their first five shows, and then I was like,
'Man, this is taking too much of my time.' I can't speak for Dave, but I
don't think he would've been unhappy if I stuck around."
Kerry：「我會這麼做（在Megadeth早期的演唱會上表演）是因為我崇拜Mustaine──我
以前看過他跟Metallica同台，他喝得爛醉，在那邊彈著速彈，完全不用看他的手指。我
和Jeff那時候都還不知道要這是怎麼辦到的（大笑）。當他被踢出團後，要找一個吉他手
，我覺得自己該加入，因為我認為可以學到一些東西。Slayer的其他人可能對此有不爽過
吧，不過我們當時都不知道就是了。而且我想說如果人們看到我在Dave的團裡表演，可以
增加Slayer的知名度。現在你回頭看會覺得這樣的組合像是明星團體，不過當時可完全不
是這麼一回事。我在他們的頭五場演唱會上表演，然後我想：『天，這佔用我太多時間了
。』當然我個人的看法不能代表Dave啦，不過我想如果我留在他們團，他會蠻高興的。」
